Hitching when switching between weapons

The first time I switch to a new marine weapon, I get a hitch. I've tried this several times and every time the profiler is saying that it is due to Direct3DTexture::Initialize.

I checked out some of the other general hitchiness that I've been getting and it all seemed to be from calls to that function.

I've got an ATI Radeon HD 4870 and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+. Here's the full dxdiag: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/98668/DxDiag.txt

I hope this helps!

This has been happening for ages, btw. I'll be upgrading my computer soon which will hopefully mean this will go away... but I thought it would be prudent to post this info here for UWE first.

This type of hitching is a known issue and will happen the first time you do a bunch of things (like enter a room, see a hive, etc). I believe its because NS2 doesn't precache everything, so it has to load certain game assets the first time you need them (hence the spike/hitch). The workaround is to run around the map/switch through all of your weapons at server join/new map so that this hitching doesn't occur in the middle of a combat situation.

    Haha... Well I'm glad it's a known issue. :)

It's a known issue indeed, but I personally (on my old 2006-era rig even) have never seen hitches that take 1600s+ (26min) like shown in this screenshot...

This is another bug that I think I posted somewhere... The profiler keeps reporting negative numbers and having general int overflow issues. The percentage bars at the top also expand beyond 100% and make it hard to see what is going on.
