the turtle to rule over all turtles
Talking with Soul-Rider the other day, he mentioned to me that I should encourage more people to make their version of turtle, and release a pack of turtles! The next day Team 5 makes it's appearance!
This might not be clear to everyone, but turtle is released under creative commons. Anyone is encouraged to open the map and have fun with it. It can be used as a help to get yourself going on mapping, creating more rooms, adding detail, vents or whatever you want to do. It can be a good place to having a go at the fun of mapping, without having to design a layout and do all the boring stuff that has to be done to get the bones of a map up. Latest version found on duplexgaming is in fact an edit not done by myself but community member Koruyo!
Turtle is a gameplay fest of a map, designed for fun and fast games in an oldschool fashion! Still using the NS2 base rules, it shows how many different map styles can be done with the same game for different types of matches. It is even a great place to start learning the basics of ns2, and its multiples strategies. It is no secret now that the best competitive players have sharpen their skills under the ruff edges of the turtle's shell!
If you want to have a take on mapping, yet don't know where to start, ns2_turtle might just be the guide for you! Add some trims and fancy ceilings for skulks to hide! Add a room for phase gate pushes, make a base perfect for Marines or Aliens! There is so much one can still do in turtle!
I will maintain my own version and updates in the mapping thread. If you have done an edit and you wish to share it, please share in this thread, and lets see who can come up with the ultimate turtle, to rule over all turtles! There is only one rule, turtle is the turtle, you shouldn't be turtling in turtle!
You can download the file here
Have fun and enjoy yourselves! And don't take yourselves too seriously! ;)

What a great way to appreciate years of work...
I'd love to have a go at this, but Insight is keeping me occupied and I also still want some free time to actually play some games. :)
