Moving players around effectively
Hi there,

Cant seem to find anything on this yet, i am sure there is a post on it somewhere but I am terrible navigating forums (only slightly better at ns2 maps lololol)

+ Idea: Marine Commander goes into comm chair at start. On the right side is his command console. On the left side are all his players going down the page

[Player 1] - Alerts posted here
[Player 2] - Alerts posted here
[Player 3] - Alerts posted here
[Player 4] - Alerts posted here

- The commander can hold shift and select 1-4 players with his mouse and then key 1 to group them under squad 1
- The commander can dismantle a member out of a squad by holding shift once more and selecting marine from list
- The commander can either select a player from the squad player list or the actual marine on the map and then use the move/attack commands as per normal, this way the whole squad wont be ordered to move.
- The commander should be able to put each player into a separate squad if he/she wants

+ The commander orders squad like this:

- When looking at players there should be a highlighted number next to the players circle indicating what number squad they are allowing the commander to easily identify and give out orders. There should also be a squad number icon on the player list.

- Orders can be given by pressing either the squad number or holding two or more numbers together and then using the attack/move/defend commands as per normal. (holding say 1,2 down and then issuing orders will give the order to both squads)

- Down the side of the page - When a player is getting attacked or requests a med-pack/ammo/order, a notification/alert appears next to the players side panel, the commander needs only to click on the player and his/her camera will be redirected to the players location.

+ Conclusion

- Team work is great, there are some great commanders around, they can't possibly remember everybody's names, especially when it is [Insert-Random-Hard to pronounce-Internet-Name-Here] and it also being PUB servers. I would like to see this happen at some point so that the Marines have a decent way of communicating when mic's aren't working effectively.

- I have no idea if this is suitable for the aliens command structure, or if something more organic is in the works.

Thanks for reading, constructive criticism please,

EDIT: It would also be handy to click on a player tab and be able to hold your mic key and it would effectively mute all other players and you could have a clear communication channel with that player for specific orders.

I was talking about this with some people in the RR the other day. You could also change their icon to meds or ammo depending on what they call for. Mostly I just want to be able to build and deconstruct squads without finding every individual on the map.

    Bump, certainly needed.
The only real problem with this is alot of players, maybe a tab that lists all the players in one, long, scrollable list?
Also, you should be able to drop medpacks directly onto the unit card, same with nanostruct, nanoshield, and ammo etc.
This will help a confused comm highly in a "where are you?" situation

Yeah the Comm UI needs some work. I posted pretty much the same stuff just a few days ago but I'm sure it's all been seen and said before.

Really someone should just make a mod. I'd start by taking a look at the code for the spectator mod that NS2HD uses, unfortunately I don't have time to do it myself.

While we're revamping the commander interface, it would be great if the alerts didn't obscure the scoreboard; I can't always see how many res my alien team has because the alerts obscure the score counts. I would say the scoreboard should lay overtop of all other info.
