Different crashes and problems

<div class="IPBDescription">When another game is updating</div>In the last day different games I have installed on steam got an autoupdate. They even update if NS2 is running, not like CS that stops all downloads.
Often when I crash or when I can not connect to a server I see a updateinfo for a game on steam.
Is it possible to activate download blocking if NS2 runs? I don't wan't to manually deactivate updates in the other games.
The L4D2 update today got me a crash on a over 70min game, and that is not nice!
Btw anyone also noticed this problems with other games updating while NS2 runs?
