Flamethrower Burns Lerk Gas

An idea for a new use of the flamethrower was to give it the ability to burn lerk gas. In my opinion it would make a nice counter to all the lerk spore spam that seems to be going on. I am not sure how difficult it would be to implement into game but i thought it sounded like a cool suggestion. =)

    Great idea. It wouldn't even have to do damage, removing spore damage and improving visibility would be plenty.

    I think this is already the plan. There was the task on progress tracker about flamethrower burning Spore and Umbra, as well as cause Whip to be unable to whack away grenades.

    I don't know if this is a good idea lol.

    If you think about it for two seconds, you'd realize a dude with a flame thrower is going to basically toast all his buddies just to remove the gas around them.

    Seems kinda odd if you ask me.

    But there's no friendly fire. I suppose it depends on whether the gas combusts as a whole or just evaporates where it's hit by the flamer.

    Im pretty sure you can deal friendly fire damage with a flamer and grenade, although It might be limited to yourself.

    In any case, I do think its a good idea to have it counter lerk gas. This, even through a lerk doesnt want to fly near a flamer anyhow, seeing as they tend to get set on fire and burn to death :p

    If the spores are trailing(having enough adrenaline, and holding mouse2), I think it should all burn!
    Release mouse2 to prevent the fire catching up to your lerk!

    igniting a portion of the lerk gas into a volitile cloud of flame sounds like fun ^^ would certainly make a lerk think twice before going in and getting their ass burnt by their own cloud :P

    I would say it should only burn the effected spore nodes, rather than having it spread. That to avoid absurd chain reactions, and to make it less of a total counter.

    it's not too tricky, i just gave it a shot after reading this thread, works quite nice actually and i did not even need to add any hitboxes to spores.

    Good idea.

    I've been watching a lot of Competitive Matches lately and the FT is rarely used which is surprising because it is an excellent 'support weapon'. Giving it additional functions like burning fart gas will help justify it's excessive cost.

    what if it also burns growth away? or maybe if you light a cyst on fire, as long as it's on fire the growth will retract slowly back into the cyst?

    I'm in favour of it simply removing spores, but not igniting. We need to make this game more positive to play people!

    I can not remember where i read it, but isnt this going to be implamented anyway. I think it is going to be added along with being able to burn Umbra but i am not sure. I am %76.32 possivtive i read about this

    Am sure I was comming a game yesterday where the pesky lerk gas was getting removed with the flamethrower (build 203).

    I think this is an excellent idea: now we have a way to kill lerk gas, can we please also have a way of killing the invincible lerks?

    good idea but aliens should also have something like, aliens on fire get extinguished by healing spore, if that isn't already implemented.

    Perhaps the welding torch could also be a counter? Maybe grens could clear it too?

    maybe we assign a new button to marines called 'waft' where you see your hands come up and swipe away small sections of the gas in a 'who just farted' fashion. This would be a localised 'aura' like effect that provides a pocket of safety from teh gas. Of course if the gas is still above you and dropping you must repededly hit waft to prevent this going up your nose.

    I support it, but in limited strength; one of the reasons Spore can do all the things it does is because it's risky to lay down. I think you should be able to gas a doorway without entering it, but that's about as far as it should go.
