Live Streaming

<div class="IPBDescription">I hate computers sometimes</div>I have been attempting to setup my PC to live stream NS2, so that I can stream all the gathers and matches duplex have.

I have setup accounts with twitch.tv and own3d.tv, both sites are fantastic and work really well.

I have downloaded Xsplit and set it up to broadcast to both twitch and own3d accounts.

My problem arises when I add a screen area to Xsplit, from that point on (even without recording) my NS2 becomes unplayable with huge input lag and choppy FPS.

I can record gameplay flawlessly using Fraps and my PC specs are high, so I am sure that it is not a performance issue. Most likely Xsplit simply being buggy and there being some unusual incompatibility. However I wanted to see if there is anyone in the community who can shed some more light on the problem or has a fix?

Streaming uses bandwith, could it be that your stream uses all your upload bandwith and the NS2 client gets lots of packet loss?

The problem with xsplit, is that you can't really get anywhere with the program without buying it, because capturing the screen is less effective (causing lag in any game that you capture) than hooking into the process via game source.

My internet connection is 5mbit upload which from my research is easily enough for streaming (even if its terrible quality). I also get the problem before I even begin uploading/broadcasting.

From research others manage to do what I am attempting, it also seems strange that I get this even before anything heavy is being done by Xsplit. Simply choosing a source causes the problem. Not the action of any encoding, etc. Whether I am actually broadcasting or not has no visible impact on performance at all.

Seems like you are not the only one:
    <a href="http://ww.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5667&p=23984" target="_blank">http://ww.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...667&p=23984</a>

But I guess you already checked all xsplit threads out.

Have you tried streaming other games as well?

If you use the free version of Xsplit you will get terrible fps, as you cannot access the 'add game' function. Streaming a game via screen region capture will not make for happy streamage unfortunately.

Awww, that is dissapointing! I guess I will need to get the paid version of Xsplit then? Do you use it at the moment? It doesn't significantly impact NS2 performance?

As I would be using it in clan matches and gathers, I don't really want to sacrifice any significant amount of performance as it would damage my play.

The xsplit gamesource capture method is much much faster than capturing your screen (screen capturing also doesnt work in games running in fullscreen mode)...
If you are having troubles with performance, try to setup a lower x264 encoding profile or otherwise go and buy the xsplit license... its an awesome programm!
