So listen to this. Tonight I found a modded server, it was modded to be like NS1. The biggest difference is no infestation. And my FPS was incredible! Almost no performance drops at all during entire matches!! It was incredible, liquid smooth gameplay.. I was picking off skulks mid air with a shotgun again.

The fact that almost everything is the same except for the lack of infestation has strongly suggested to me that infestation is causing all of our FPS drops. Devs, any comments as to if this makes sense?

Infestation is extremely performance expensive. This is a known issue. Hughe was talking about it not very long ago.

So its impossible to give us an option toggle infestation on / off, at least until the infestation can be less taxing?

so with the start NS2 as high priority - is there also a way to set affinities?

EG: set to only 1-4 and not 5-8?

I second this. Please just give us a toggle on/off for infestation. I prefer a game to run well than to look pretty. Having the wall decals turn green would be sufficient.

hey guys ... I was looking for a solid SLI profile for my 590GTX and I just found it , now maxed out @1080p - 60fps vsync and no fps drop at all ;)

So i go to 310.54 and used that sli profile ==> 0x03402005 (Counter-strike: Global Offensive, Firefall, Dishonored, End of Nations, Spec Ops: The Line)

If it helps someone , it's great :)

I completely agree with the infestation theory and suggestions. That explains why the game runs smoothly at the beginning of a round, but as the aliens gain territory it gets worse. A "cheap infestation" option would be great--just a greenish ambient light around cysts or something.

I also have knoxville's problem--where is the fsmod folder?

Changing the priority to high does significantly improve FPS. Still choppy but much better than before.

That mod is currently broken AND banned from use in competitive play by ENSL and various others, because it contains scripts.

Please update the opening thread on how we can MANUALLY disable/set these options without modification.

Make sure you have Physx system software installed, even if you don't have any Physx hardware in your system (nVidia video card or dedicated card).
    <a href="http://physxinfo.com/news/category/physx-drivers/" target="_blank">Physx system drivers</a>
I just played a full game without slowdown for the first time after installing this. Even endgame didn't slow down. Instead of being last place on my team, I was tops. Makes the game much more fun.

Simply rename/delete/destroy/etc folder named as "infestation" that located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\materials". Enjoy with boosted FPS. Also you can't see infestation anymore.

Thanks and sorry for the delay.
Depending on the CPU and Chipset it will or will not have hybrid CPU/GPU functionality.
The chipset in your laptop, the Mobile Intel PM55 (according to <a href="http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/M15x/en/compspec/CS_en.pdf" target="_blank">this</a> and <a href="http://ark.intel.com/products/42694/Intel-BD82PM55-PCH" target="_blank">this</a>) does not support the use of the Integrated Graphics Processor.
I'm not sure what version/model and configuration of the alienware mx15 you are using but from the looks of it you don't have the IGP functionality available and use only the dedicated GPU for graphics.

I played the <a href="http://ns2cmod.com/" target="_blank">http://ns2cmod.com/</a> The NS1 models have extremely low-res textures and lot's of missing animations. There are no descriptions only $ALIEN_WHATEVER_ABILITY_TOOLTIP Got the same bad performance. FPS is really low playing with <4 people on the server testing the mod.

Also tried the combat mod which should be even more performance friendly because the maps are smaller, fewer assets, less complex game logic. Still the FPS was horrible. Maybe the co_core remake was too detailed. It was not fun to play.

Well, now we funded Unknown Worlds with lot's of sold copies. Hope they do some hard work on the game engine.

Quadcore / Sixcore / eightcore Core Parking Fix (STICKY PLS)
    ---------------
    """"
Currently, the CPU Power Policies that are used by Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are not optimized for the dual core AMD Bulldozer module architecture. This architecture is found on AMD FX series, AMD Opteron 4200 Series, and AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors. This can result in decreased system performance with multithreaded workloads in lightly-threaded environments.
    """""

since ive checked the taskmanager now its using all cores and not only 3 or even 4 and thats how it looks like:

    <img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img27/8587/disabledcoreparking.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

ive changed that ######y stuff and thanks again again and again to "joederp" my mouse is much more responsive (deathadder 3.5g) even on a 50 FPS battle and i do not get fps drops after i minimized the game - seems to reload the game much faster.

ive used google to check out some known issues and found stuff like this:

    <a href="http://www.ghacks.net/2012/07/15/how-to-change-core-parking-states-in-windows/" target="_blank">http://www.ghacks.net/2012/07/15/how-to-ch...tes-in-windows/</a>

ive installed the custom fix since win###### microsoft stuff didnt worked as a fix and now they are not beeing parked and everything runs much smoother.

    // Microsoft Hotfx (FX6300 did not worked) <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060</a>
// Customfix (worked for me easy and fine) <a href="http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility" target="_blank">http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disa...Parking-Utility</a>

Edit: ATM. gota try out how much fps this Fix do increase in a battle with exos + onos but overall the fps have increased and everything is more responsive (even mousemovement)

Finaly ive made another settings and new catalyst 13.1 is out atm. the overall FPS have strongly increased and ive turned the "Core Performance Boost" off wich causes me much less framedrops and i can stay finaly at a ~35 FPS engame battle.

But need to check first the lowest framerate on a 16 player server (map ~4 exos 4 onos??~40 minutes) with the new catalyst before im going to write down something.

    /Update/Edit:

    NS2_Mineshaft / 20 Players / Lastbase Fight Aliens lose lowest fps 26 (5 Exos 10 arcs)
    NS2_Tram 20 Players / Lastbase Fight Marines lose lowest fps 31 (6 Onos 2 Gorges 2 Lerks)

Finaly i wanted to test 16 slot but did not found some - so i guess the FPS are fine with that amount of stuff and players

Coreboost caused me to have ~8 frames in such situations more but then i was recieving huge fps drops after some seconds every time wich dropped me below 20 - guess that helps alot to turn that off
