Where is the link.

This is 2012, where is the link? This is not the past, this is the future. I require a link or an elaborate and informative explanation which would remove the need for a link. I have none of these things therefor I am confused and frightened and uninformed.

However, I had tried Baldur's gate in the past and was unable to get into it despite the excellent reputation of the story for the pain of the interface. (and I've played through the original x-com, so I can endure an interface) so I am interested in this, which is why I am doubly scorned by your obtuseness and obfuscation.

What was wrong with the interface, other than possibly taking up a bit too much space?

can't enhance that which is already perfect
overhaul games and beamdog are not familiar names to me, are there any good games they have developed & published?

I picked the image up on IRC and figured it was someone's screenshot of the http://baldursgate.com site before it got overloaded.

    FNURGLE?

Oddly enough I only gave BG1 a go for the first time last week (downloaded from GOG), but like NeonSpyder I couldn't get into it. I've played NWN some years back so was semi-familiar with the system but BG must use an older version of rules. That and being handed 4 party members near the start was all a bit too much.

Will keep an eye on this, though.

Hell I should elaborate and mention that I play dwarf fortress yet I still found the BG1 interface to be difficult. But maybe now I remembering it as the interface when it was really just old game mechanics or immature design principles or a lack of a tutorial?

    Hmm...

I know it's a good enough game to give it another shot.

What mainly turned me off about Baldur's Gate was that it billed itself as a D&D game but used real-time combat instead of turn-based. I had that same problem with NWN. Though today I was told you could make it entirely turn-based in the options. I never saw anything about that. Now I don't know what to think.

Also, the presence of spellcasters who could instakill any of your group members early in the game when resurrection was completely beyond your financial means meant that you had to savescum a lot. That turned me off as well.

Lolfighter, there was an option to make it pause every 6 seconds when a new round started. You could issue your orders and then unpause and let it run everything until the next pause. It was the closest you could get. It wasn't quite real time due to rounds running in the background but also wasn't turn based either.

Casters were a pain... also exploiting is so easy in that game. Open door, fire poison cloud, close door... Profit.

Haha I did almost the exact thing to the assassin you meet in the town where Minsc is. Open door to tavern, chat, he fires hold person (100% effective so far), before it hits I exit, go back, wait for new spell, exit etc. Until he was out of spells which meant we could all go in and bash his ######.

Easily the biggest turn-off for Baldur's Gate was the fudged saving throws the game gave everything in the game except your characters, hence why an equal-leveled mage casts a hold spell and it hits like three guys at once... you cast four of them and nothing.
