So, this is my first map and I figured I would get some feedback from the mapping community, seeing as how I have really no experience whatsoever.

The concept of my map was that there aren't many maps that focus on the sustainability of the marines. So, the map takes place on a planet that has water trapped underground. Using the water found, the base is mainly concerned with treating the water and using it to grow food for continued operations.

On a side note, I keep getting a graphical glitch in one of my rooms.I took a screencap of it. The black line shows up across the screen. It disappears as soon as I leave the room. When I change heights to view it, it also changes. So, it's not static. Anyone have any idea what's causing it?

Layout looks nice, I would reconsider the spawning locations though. They seem very close.
I think static spawns with marines in Control, and aliens in Hydroponics, could work very well.

If you need a place to upload your files, you can use our map/mod database.
All you need to do is sign up on duplexgaming.co.uk - and wait for me to change your membergroup.
Then you will be able to go to "Admin" in the top left, then "Downloads", then the "Maps" button to add a map.

Keep making progress, your room designs look very interesting.

Edit: You now have access to the database.

I'm not going to lie, I tried level designing and I found it very hard. I don't know how to texture and you look like your on a great start. The rooms make sense and I can see aliens talking around in all those spots and marines looking for them.

I like the direction your heading and I'm looking forward to a beta map :).

As I was looking over the overview of the map I like what I saw but it all looked to streaked out. Between "Water Storage" and "Green House" I think that distance is way to far. Try filling up a room in the middle and you can still have those alien exits making them connect. "Misc Equip Space", "Collection", and "Transfer" look like they have an enormous space in the middle. In summit for example there is very little space in the middle to be left inaccessible and blank.

My ideas are to try to "Squish" the map together more (which I think would be the bad idea because it would make the map smaller and the spawns closer), or make more open rooms and less long hallways.

I think the connection from "Exosphere South" to "Control" seems pretty far to be just a curvy tunnel, but I guess I might be just plane wrong. Also I see "Control" as being a choke point with only 2 exits/entrances so that's why I see as the corridors as very long and hard to get to control. I see NS1 as a hallway sort of map with small rooms in between and I see NS2 as big rooms with small hallways connecting them so I think you should try to stay with this.

As you read this please don't see this as me making fun of your map and saying its horrible. I still very much like this map and am just giving you as much criticism as possible so you can see new ways to design the map and make it better.

    Hope you do well!

Thanks for the feedback. I was kind of thinking the same thing as far as the hallways were concerned. Seeing as this is my first attempt at a map, I figure I'm prone to make some errors.

I will be adding some rooms to expand on the initial layout and gameplay. The other issue I ran into was that I had my tech points too close to other rooms and they were able to get sieged fairly easily, so the emptiness is part of the reason behind that as well.

I'll have to work on my design skills to enhance the layout and make it more fluid with less hallways.

You could easily make the hallways smaller by in the middle just putting a "box" room. I made it sound really simple but I bet it would be hard and wouldn't look bad at all.

That's a good thought. I could use them as placeholders or just do a straight modification of them after the fact.

I started blending rooms together and started drastically cutting down on hallways. Some areas, I couldn't avoid changing because of the drastic height differences and others I am still thinking of ways to improve.

Have you been making any progress on this? Or did the project die? :(
