Cpu Load On Multi Proc Linux Ns1.02?

<div class="IPBDescription">Quad Proc only uses 1 CPU?</div> I may be missing something, but I've setup a new NS1.02 server at 65.90.208.172. Its a beast of a box. Quad P3 Xeon and multiple gigs of ram on disgustingly big pipes. I haven't tried any optimizations yet, I just want to make sure it runs.

I'm watching it at the console (I have never played NS, I set it up for a friend), and noticed that it seems to only be running on one of the CPUs (and occasionally switches which one).

So, with 13 players its sitting at about 75%-50% usage on one cpu and the other 3 are 0%. Am I missing something or does the NS server not utilize multi cpu?

HLDS is not multithreaded. It only uses a single CPU.

Ah. Is there a way to stop it from switching processors (linux system) or specify which processor to keep it on?

Half-Life doesn't inherently use multiple cpu's, never has, prolly never will. Therefore, nearly all mods(including Natural-Selection) use 1 cpu.

also your specs don't seem so good if u get 75 with 13 people i mean i overloaded mine and got 99.9 on hera or 60% on eclipse with 18 ppl

Again, I haven't tuned it or used any of the 'pingboosters' or any of that. This is out of the box config. I'm at 24 with 90% cpu now. I'm just going to limit it there for now. Any clue on how to keep it on one cpu rather than having it jump mid process to another?

Nope, thats the kernel at work... basically running an SMP server slows down a HLDS since calculations and data jump from proc to proc. Sadly because HLDS doesnt do multithreading. your S.O.L.
