Welder vs Axe

<div class="IPBDescription">What, if any, is the damage difference?</div>If anyone happens to have heard from UWE or seen in the game code what the damage difference (type, per-hit, rate...etc) between the welder and axe is, I'd very much appreciate the information. I've always enjoyed helping out my fellow marines by welding armor, but I do a <i>lot</i> of axing as a marine.

Edit: does that .6 swing rate include the long break between each double-hit of the axe?
Also, I really like how Welder can increase the health of unbuilt structures but does not construct them, so you can buddy up with several 'rines for building and quickly increase its HP simultaneously!

Welder: 91 seconds

Ax 36 seconds
Welder 71 seconds

Is that just holding down m1 for both, or doing the fast-click on the axe?
Either way, thanks for the info. I think I'm keeping the axe for most of the game.
I did. Un-upgraded, the axe takes off 10% of a cyst per hit, leaving 1-2% percent left from the regeneration after you hit it ten times. Upgraded, it goes down swiftly and you take more than 10% off per hit.

That was holding down M1 for both. Also the welder has a bit of delay or something when it fires up.
It invests in a better grindstone for sharper axes, clearly.

Decisions, decisions....
It would be nice if it was a starting load out option versus the axe, leaving pRes for standard weapons.
I dont think aus/nz will have any problem deciding axe or welder
