that's because welding and attacking use 2 different calculations (welding is a simple trace ray, attack uses a box to find the target, like any other melee weapon does in the game) i will unify those calculations with the next patch (both will use the same box then) which should also make it easier to weld a running marine. it did not make it into this patch yet since there are priority problems (the standard melee attack calculations prioritize enemies, where the welder should do the opposite and i need to adjust that for the welder.) since you usually don't play with FF or cheats enabled i spend my time on other bugs

Third person welder doesn't match how it's held in first person.

The blue circles are cool and really useful. It could be better if they faded away the further away from the observatory they were, and brighter the closer they were. All those blue dots at once is a lot of on screen information.

Here's that weird vortex I've seen in quite a few builds

Just have them shrink in size with distance, to some given size. I'm thinking something slightly larger than the 0 in the Rifle ammo readout.

@OP, what exactly do you mean with open beta. Getting the beta for free to play the beta? In a way NS2 is already in an open beta for pre-oders and I'd rather have money go to the devs with people actually interested in the game (pre-ordering it). Then some random free open beta people that will most likely think "meh", due to optimisations still to be done (even if it is already playable). Comparing it to final betas from other games, and not be seen from or heard from again (feedback and playing)

QFT. NS2 isn't really a beta. It's more a game that normally only DEVs and PTs can see.
All the other AAA games had this also but not public.

IMO NS2 can't be a more "open" beta than it is now.
Or do you think you could write Gabe from valve a mail about balance or other things and they try it out and implement it in CS:GO build xxx?
Can you as hobby programer help work valve on CS:GO by modding the game and raise to a DEV yourself?
No you can't because it's isn't a open development.

UWE is IMHO the most "open" Gamestudio you can find!

I was just going to comment on this. I was in a vent and that stupid way point was right in front of me making it very difficult to be able to see anything.
It's cool looking but blocks too much.

Yup, the third person animation is just a hack right now, and is using the pistol animation but with a welder instead, just so it would be in the patch. The actual 3rd person builder/welder animations are being worked on.

I so want to be involved with playing these beta builds. I want to find and report bugs to fix, throw out suggestions to improve game play, argue about FOV, skill based movement etc. but this game just wont run anymore. I did not see anything in the change log that looked like it would address my situation but I tried anyway and I am sorry to report I still have no joy :( .

I check in on the slideshow every version, my P4 3GhZ with HT loads the game in this and every other version since I downloaded it (184ish I think). Like I said it's a slideshow, so I do not play, it has made noticable gains since 10 builds ago.

After the 'loading' screen disappears I see a black screen that says nothing but "Build: 19x" in the top left corner, but if I wait another 60-90 seconds the ready room will eventually appear.

Running on Nvidia hardware (old-ass 7600GS).

Copy pasted and rearranged the assist menu to something which I think would fit better.

Current one.

New one with Equipment section and bottom ability bar.

Supplies are kept on top and abilities are on the bottom. There is an equipment section button rather than filling the assist menu with weapons. Keeping priority on the supplies and abilities, while giving more item selection for the commander to drop for his team.

Instead of open beta maybe they can allow existing players to purchase new player skins and ect and have it a featured listing on Steam. That should put some money back in their pockets and not require much dev work.

As far as I was aware the devs raised finance through business angel type investors, and also have the money from 30K+ sales. As far as I was aware there were 8 people working at UWE.

I've seen you posting all over the internet about NS2 and most of it is made up. Why do you think posting incorrect and baseless information is going to help anyone, particularly the devs and the game?

!!! PFF CRASHED AGAIN AND AGAIN !!!

My NS2 is still crashing from the Build 190. Do u know what does it mean payin but not playing till last 8 Builds. :(

Please remove those splash screens or check what did u do after Build 189.

I blame those splash screens may be there is a memory problem or a null adress pointer, clean install not works, or tell me if I miss anything about Physics, Drivers etc...

Also PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE enable "PHYSICS + GPU "

That is extra work they don't have time for. In 6-7 NS2 reaches 1.0, till then alot of things will be added in the game that they still have to develop. Maybe they will add DLC after 1.0 but for sure not in beta.

I don't think UWE hasn't enough money, they still search for programers and UI-Artists. But finance things is the thing that UWE has to think about and not we.
Anything posted about $\£\¥\whatever is just pure bull###### because only UWE knows about this. I fully trust brian prime\brian one\max\charlie\dushan\cory in theyr decissions.

With HT? do you mean Hyper-Threading Technology (HTT)? From what I read that is a feature to make one physical CPU work as two logical CPUs. So the question remains for anyone with a standard single-core.

Played several games of 198 tonight and again my FPS have dropped to single figures. This seems to happen every other build and 197 was pretty smooth for me even late game. Now I am down to single figure FPS and with lots of lag and warping. Just trying to walk feels like I'm taking several steps forward then being pulled back. Makes combat pretty frustrating so had to give up after a few hours. Tried 3 different servers with only minor differences in performance.

The games I played tonight were very short. 10-15 minutes tops and rarely saw Fades/GL's as Aliens either Skulk rushed and destroyed the CC or Marines rushed with shotguns and took out the hive very quickly. Marines seem to be finding the hive very very easily now which sort of spoils the slow build up of alien hive rooms. Has the way the obs changed? I was constantly being shot as alien even in the best of hiding places. I noticed as marine I often had the blue circle showing where aliens were for pretty much all the game. Made it too easy as marine and hard for aliens as ambushes, which the Skulk should excel at a waste of time now. All the games felt the same and I felt very disappointed when I came off as NS2 seemed to be developing into a slower more tactical game which I like and supported whole heartedly.

Shotguns are available way to early now and I was finding it too easy to kill Skulks even with the lag and poor frame rates I was getting. Playing as a Skulk was just pure frustration as is playing Lerk atm for the same reason. I hate the way the Lerk stops dead and just drops to the floor when it touches anything and as the corridors are so tight especially in Summit its very hard to avoid doing just that and leaving the lerk very vulnerable. Rather than stop the Lerk dead in its tracks could it not just be slowed down a touch but let it fly on, unless it flies into something head on obviously? But just glancing a wall, door, corridor or whatever should not stop it so suddenly as it does atm.

The new waypoints are great but the screen is now becoming a mess of data and personally I find it very distracting and its obstructing my vision a lot. They could do with being a lot smaller and less bright or slightly see through. Options to change the size and brightness would be ideal. When an obs spotts aliens with the blue circle could they not be brighter the closer the alien is and fade the further away they are?

I have had more crashes and servers crashes in the last week than in all my time in the game since the Alpha came out.

The marine spam jumping is out of hand now and everybody is doing it. Its starting to feel like Quake 3 Arena.

Had a fun night playing NS2 today but in 10 or so games I played (on 2 different servers) I never saw a single marine win. No balance complaint, that was probably just bad luck but still a little frustrating despite the fun I had.

Due to the memory leaks, i have a script running which will kill server.exe after it reaches 2,800,000 KB of memory used (2.8GB roughly). That seems to take about 2 hours of playtime, which unfortunately will be killing a lot of rounds in progress.

It seems like aliens have a huge disadvantage now in early game with the motion tracking. Can get shot guns early and motion tracking early in the game and those are 2 things skulks are afraid of, not being able to hide and getting one shotted from a shotgun is very frustrating in the first 5 min of the game. I've been in several games where aliens can't even get a second hive up because the marines bum rush it with shotguns in the first maybe 10 min of the game.

Lerk Spikes are in need of a rework IMO. It is far too inaccurate, even at medium to range.

Firing both types of Spikes at a distance of 5-10m, 60 to 100% (3 to 5 out of 5) of the Spikes would frequently miss a stationary Marine (tested with bullet trace on).

Once Marines research Shotgun, flying any closer becomes suicidal.

Yep, this is what my lerk thread is about - all its attacks are geared toward close range fighting, but the accuracy spread makes them less useful than straight-up biting as a skulk. The advantages of being able to fly are lost when all you can do is lay spores for your teammates, and never truly enter into combat yourself. It was this way before hide was added, and it's still this way afterward... so few people bother to try playing lerk that it seems to go unnoticed.

^ i agree. i love the class, but both weapons aren't adjusted well enough to be in combat just yet. i mean i can still get kills, but it does not justify the 30 res when considering the points.
make spores drop to the ground, and make spikes much more accurate/ lerk bite /umbra etc etc.

anyone think that the shotgun should not be as effective a weapon against the lerk since its more suited for fades and what not? i know its a weak argument... i'm just sick of getting one shot killed from over 50 meters away after spending 30 res..

played the new build quite a lot now. kinda nice except that memory leak (which probably drains some fps on client side).

the building effect looks&sounds quite awesome! the tool also fixes a possible abuse: reloading and switching weapons while building.
two minor details about the building-tool bugged me though:
1. the two blue nano beams seem slightly off in terms of where (location) and how (angle) they leave the tool. as said this is only minor though.
2. the first time i had a welder i thought it can be used to build structures, probably because the health goes up in both cases.

as for the welder, its nice as well. however, as mentioned before here, it seems a bit difficult to repair marines' armor sometimes.

please keep up the good work :)
