Suggestion:
Medium to heavy alien traffic over a border of infestation should allow the slime to spread for free in that direction.
If the traffic diminishes, so does this free creep until it's connecting a cyst. It does not regenerate if attacked, though.
Therefore, if an infestation line established on dragged infestation is broken it does not regenerate by itself.
