<div class="IPBDescription">The Truth About "TEH CRAPY ALiENS"</div> Dodgy ideas about turret-tweaking aside (well... mine, at least) there's something that those new to the game should be considering before claiming that the aliens' *whatever* is too weak (except for the siege turret wars. Although it's great when you eat them. Anyway...).
The learning curve of the Kharaa is a damn site steeper- and longer- than that of the marines.
It should be obvious, but it cleary isn't to some new players. Anyone can join the marines and play well- because, quite simply, they're the classic FPS fare; hold a gun, point the gun, click the mouse button, splat the wierd scuttling thing... teamwork and following the commander's orders comes naturally too, at least for veterans of TFC and the better mods.
The aliens are a different story- they rely on stealth and melee power, finding a lone marine and tearing him in half before anyone notices. It may seem like the marine's are constantly in a secure squad, but they have to respawn and find their way back eventually...
Learning the Kharaa techniques thus takes longer- mastering the wall-walk, getting the hang of patience as you wait for a prime target, cloaked behind that (lovingly detailed <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) shadowy pipe in the corridor; it's much harder to learn all this then the staple of the genre; the guns and teamplay of the marines.
Bluntly, it takes time to get <i>good</i> at the aliens, and even longer to be <i>great</i> with our hive-mentality chums. But once you learn... well, then the mod is fun incarnate... this forum exists for a reason, you know!
Oh, and it's a myth that the Kharaa should be played <i>excactly</i> like a deathmatch game. A skulk sneaking up on two shotgun-wielding marines starting on a turret factory is a tense moment; A group of skulks makes violent victory a certainty.
Teamplay and experience are your friends!
