Can you join servers in other games?

You might also try to join a server manually. You just type 'connect serverIP' into the console (which you can bring up by hitting the ~ (tilde) key). You can find a list of server IPs at http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/ (click on the orange text at the top).

Ok, could be a little late to reply, but I've recently found a sort of solution for me. It turns out that I cannot join or even see servers on the list with a port of 27016 or 27017.
My quick fix is to connect through console but put down 27015 for the port instead.

This may be due to the new patch we just launched.
