So... for those wondering what this game is, it's one of the few I've been more excited about. Why? Here's the list of stuff that sells me on it in a nice little, easy-to-read bullet list :3
* Proper action combat where your blade hits where you swing (it's a bit like monster hunter)
* No tab-targetting: your abilities go where you aim.
* Dodging/blocking so you can pre-empt enemy attacks and evade them
* enemies have tells (think boss fights, where they have hints at what attack they're going to do)
* Kinnetic battling with people and enemies getting knocked about and rushing forward and whatnot :D
* Political system where you can become the ruler of different regions either via popularity or battle prowess in the arena
Did I also mention the game is gorgeous? :3
Here's a trailer to w<b>h</b>et the appetite... keep in mind any attacks you see in the vid are actual abilities from the game :p

...and to show off someone who has no idea what's going on actually playing in the game, here's an obligatory "wtf is..." video from totalbiscuit. For some reason playing the german version :p

That does sound interesting. Let the upsigning commence!
... also I predict an extremely low chance of getting in because there'll be people using bots to sign up hundreds and hundreds of accounts.
It's also probably also worth note that Koreans already thought it was too 'western' and there were some complaints it wasn't grindy enough from their side, while western folk who sneaked in to play seemed to really enjoy it. Take of that what you will :3
In regards to Lineage III... kinda yes and no. Long story is that some of the folk developing Lineage 3 jumped ship to make their own company (Bluehole studios) and NCSoft accused them of taking some of the Lineage 3 engine code with them to make their first title, Tera :p
I must admit though, the new lineage game (lineage eternal) is also as equally far departed from it's Lineage I and II ancestors and looks rather impressive but I'll refrain putting up vids of the crazy gameplay as there's not even any confirmation we'll ever see it, nevermind a release date or beta application :3
Anyhoo, as far as Tera goes, my race will be a no-brainer. I'm definitely going to go Elin and I'll make a character so adorable people will get diabetes just from being on the same server as me :p
The real dilemma is what class to go. I've been looking through vids to try and work out which suits me best. Here's a fun lil one I stumbled across (I think it's fan made)
<div align='center'><center><object width="450" height="356"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MLScNVdsGP0"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MLScNVdsGP0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="356"></embed></object></center>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLScNVdsGP0" target="_blank">Tera Classes</a></div>
For those curious, my race of choice, Elin, is the one playing Mystic in that vid :D
there were some concerns over Elin armour (people saying it was pedobear approved) so I think in the westernisation they've altered the armour to give a bit more coverage for the Elin at least. It's entirely possible this ''cloth extension' may have been extended to other classes (you'll note the female character in the english trailer wasn't in the bondage gear you see her race wearing in most korean vids), so it might not be as bad as all that :3
Battle Beavers.
<b>Battle.</b>
<b>Beavers.</b>
Seriously though, I'm going to skip this whole ordeal due to the payment model. That just puts me off intantly (Though, I can understand why some people don't mind). The combat system looks much more interesting though, and it's one of the things I really hated about WoW when I played that in a brief trial - and also what added to the hate for subscription models. It just seemed insane for me to pay a monthly fee for gameplay so bland. (This is not meant to start a discussion on monthly fees, this is just my own reasoning, others have their own reasoning, let's leave it at that)
I'll probably end up with GW2 for my 'MMO fix' (not that I really need one, but I don't need more than one as it is), even if it is also skill bar combat.
However, I will be forever jealous of the beavers though :'(
Edit: Also, I recently watched Princess Mononoke. Now I can't stop thinking about giant beaver gods, and its slightly smaller, but still vastly oversized beaver offspring.
As for subscriptions, I used to pay £30 a month for a bus pass when I was in school. I just use that as my point of scale for subscriptions and the like and as such most subs don't bother me as they're a 3rd of what it cost me to use the bus each month (and the bus pass price has gone up considerably since those days :3 ) Long story short, it's not really that much money, even compared to buying a single new game each month. But each to their own :D
I've been delving into class info more and found a handy thread on the official forums containing videos of low level powers to help give a rough idea of what you'd be jumping into intitially. I'll link the thread here, but I'm going to include the vids in this post too :3
Also keep in mind that these are only low level stuffs, you get lots more as you level up, some of which I'll mention in a later post perhaps :p

<b>edit:</b> what the... ok the sorcerer one doesn't work because the youtube code has the letters F, a and g in it which the censor leaps on. GAH!!!! Censors are so annoying ><
I theoretically like the idea of an MMO more focussed on actual combat, requiring that hits connect rather than selecting an enemy and selecting an ability. However latency means that this is impossible unless you're less than 100ms from the server. This is pretty unlikely in Australia, and most of the world, really.
--Scythe--
I've played a fair few korean online action games in my time and they seem to have a fairly good grasp of netcode so I suspect it'll be fine. That said, I don't live in Australia so you might have more connection issues than I'm used to :s

Dragon Nest by Nexon is another such game. It seems to work just fine as far as lag goes. It's free to play, so I'd highly suggest checking it out. Vindictus (also Nexon) is yet another real-time combat MMO.
By the way, OP, you got the Berserker and Slayer descriptions mixed up. Slayer is the dodging one, berserker is the blocker.
I really liked Dragon's Nest but the only way for europeans to play is via Cherrycredits (the Philippines host)
I have trouble getting fully into it because of the lag caused by connecting to servers way over there and the fact that if a european host does magically turn up (or nexon eu pull their goddamn finger out, which is unlikely considering how long it took them to get Mabinogi :p ) then I'm going to have to start all over again XD
US folk should give it a shot on Nexon though. It's worth it :3
I should give Vindictus another shot... I got kinda bored of it rather quickly last time, but that was before they added the mage who looks a bit less spammy :3
That reminds me, I meant to make a post about Continent of the Ninth's upcoming closed beta on Webzen. They're accepting 10,000 applicants :D
So, if you got an invite, then well done but it's also worth noting that I envy you because I didn't get one :(

Agreed.
I remember playing FFXI and having one of the best gaming experiences (where I didn't bother playing anything else for the duration of the time).
MMORPGs can be really fun if you can manage to get a good group of people to play with it (doesn't have to be anyone IRL either as I've played with no one I knew IRL and still had a lot of fun).

<.<
~buys the pre-order with the lion on it~
And the game will get released. NCsoft have already tried and failed to sue the TERA devs about 4 times.
(I lie I totally can't resist)
It seems that En Masse Entertainment (the peoples in charge of the american one) have started their ad campaign now too. I must admit, while not exactly an A-list celebrity, I'm surprised to see a face I recognise in an MMO ad. That said, I guess after WoW's star-studded ad campaign it shouldn't surprise me XD

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZwcyJY9eEw" target="_blank">Are you an MMO-FO?</a></div>
So... yeah... I guess they're pushing that action combat angle. That's fine I guess. It was the combat that attracted me in the first place, though I think they could've used more actual gameplay instead of the few fleeting clips they snuck in there :o
£50 is a *lot*
Althought saying that..I did buy the Witcher 2 CE...
S'up to you though sonic. I figure that I'm already spending more than that on Soul Calibur V (I got the collector's ed for about £70 :s ) but then again I did just get a nice bonus in my last paycheque so I can afford a little indulgence :3
If you do get on, we'll have to try and get on the same server so I can make you go "d'awwww" with my adorable elin antics :p
Ah screw it, what the hell. Gonna roll 20 deep on my badass lion and stomp dudes under my ###### giant Baraka feet.
(including your little girl)

But we'll see, we'll see... :p
Get a key for the sneak peak this weekend! They're adding new ones every now and then so keep checking!
<a href="https://account.tera-europe.com" target="_blank">https://account.tera-europe.com</a> to register one if you got it.
Not expecting much being made by Koreans. I hear the Western devs removed the ###### parts of it, so let's see this weekend.
