<div class="IPBDescription">"Top" View the wrong orientation?</div>Hey Guys,

Just decided to start a fresh new map, having got a lot of encouragement from my last 15 hours of mapping with spark. However I have just noticed an issue with the editor which is causing me confusion as I work. The Top-Down view is oriented so north points to the east. Is this the same for everyone or have I done something to change the orientation?

Thanks

EDIT - I think this may be because I've been up all night and started with a circle. My brain is getting very confused at the moment with this orientation, but it just feels like the top view is the wrong way round, even though with more structures it works.

To my mind, Side view, I am looking from west of the map to east of the map, and the blue line indicates north, and front view I am looking from north to south, or vice versa, and the red line indicates east/west. From this point of view, the top view is oriented wrong.

Can someone please clear the confusion in my head, thanks :)

    Hi Soul,

    there is no north, just x, y, z axes. The Y axis (green) is always the vertical one, Z and X axes are always horizontal.

    Hope that clears things up.

    uh... the Z-axis is supposed to be the vertical one. at least here in Europe?

    XY and Z;
    makes sense alphabetically doesn't it?

    OK, I'll explain it this way.

    If we say Y is UP, X (red) is horizontal and Z (blue) is depth (horizontal away from you). This is the impression you get on Side View and Front View.

    Logically it would follow that Z axis would be pointing to the 'Top' of the screen in the 'Top View' screen, but it points to the right, and the X axis points to the top of the screen. This feels like the top view is rotated 90 degrees from the side or front view, and causes my brain to twist when going between the views.

    If it's only me, then I guess I'll have to put up with it :)

    Oh yeah I see your point now. I never really noticed it, since I work mainly in the perspective view :P I don't know, I suppose you just have to make a mental note of it!
