Mini Map Images?

Hi guys,

I am putting together a map/mod database as part of our clan site and wanted to get ahold of overview images for all the maps (like the minimap ingame). Are the ingame minimaps simply images I could use? Or is there some otherway I could get these? I was hopeing to get them all in the same format, for consistency etc.

I realise maps might be automatically downloaded soon-ish, but that could be months. With (hopefully) more performance increases soon to come, we thought a maps database might help to encourage people to play a selection of maps.

    Stored here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\maps\overviews

I've not tried editing them to see what effect they have. I have nothing capable of opening the HMP.

Thank you konata! I managed to open the .tga files in GIMP and they seem to be small low res map overviews, but would probably do fine for my needs.

Does anyone have any ideas on opening the .hmp files?

The .hmp files are just just commander height maps i think. I don't think there is anything there visually of interest.

You can create a higher res version of the minimap by creating a link to overview.exe with the command

    steamapps\common\natural selection 2\Overview.exe" maps/map.level ns2 1024 1024

for example. It will overwrite your other files so backup if you don't want a 4Mo minimap

Thank you for the info about overview.exe not working in this build. I have another question...

Some of the map overviews I have (taken from the map archives) are styled very differently. You can see them here: http://www.duplexgaming.co.uk/downloads/maps/ (just click on the map names)

Some overviews have transparent backgrounds, some grey gradients. Others have slightly different issues (purple lines, bits of black background, etc). Why does this happen and is there any way I can make them all consistent (eventually)?

Any insight you guys have would be appreciated!

The overview generator has been bugged for quite some time now, in that it didn't set the alpha map properly. The differences you see are caused by each one dealing with the alpha map differently.

At this time I don't see how you could make then consistent, apart from going over them all in photoshop and creating the consistent look you want. If you have time to spend on that... Otherwise, just wait for the overview builder to be fixed.

To mess around with commander mode on your maps for testing purposes, I believe you can simply copy paste for example summit's minimap and then rename those copies to your map name. Wrong map, but working commander mode I think...
