Rifle butt with all weapons

<div class="IPBDescription">always mouse 3 or user-defined</div>As of right now I find it very confusing that the shotgun doesn't have rifle-butt.

I suggest to implement basicly the same system that BF-BC2 uses. a third attack key (middle mouse/mouse3) that always performs your current melee weapon.
my educated guess is that almost 95% or more of the gamers here have a middle mouse button..

with this extra attack key you can have rifle butt with the assault rifle, the shotgun, the rifle+GL and maybe even the flametrower.

---------------------------------------------------------------

or.... make it exactly like BF-BC2 and make the third attack key to always swing the axe out.
however, this makes the rifle butt kind of obsolete..

----------------------------------------------------------------

as an extra bonus I have also this idea:

make the axe usable with all three attack keys -> with a different animation for every key.

for example:

mouse1 = upper hand swing
mouse2 = lower hand swing
mouse3 = horizontal swing

this doesn't have to change the way it does damage or anything, just having this gives the user more sense of control, thus more fun.

    I’m going to tac my idea onto this thread, since it is somewhat related:

    The gorge should have heal-spray as a secondary for every weapon that it has selected.

    +1 for diffrent axe swings. -1 for melle for flamethrower and nades.

    Two of the goals of the weapons design is to differentiate them and to make them always useful (i.e. one weapon is not superior to another weapon is all circumstances).

    If the grenade launcher version of the rifle had the melee attack as well, then there would be no reason to not always buy that GL when you had the resources. Similarly if all weapons had rifle butt or the ability to do a quick melee attack with the axe, than the uniqueness of the rifle is diminished.

    Hitting anything with the back of the flamethrower will expose the canister of burnable, explodable fluid directly to the enemy.

    I don't think thats a good idea ;)

    Not that I want to argue with you Max, but that 1st sentence is just basically WRONG.

    The GL is better in ALL circumstances than the rifle. Ok you lose the Rifle Butt, but its not hard to switch to the axe and back again. And in most cases if you are using he butt of a rifle its a last resort and quite frankly I would much rather drop a nade on my own feet and kill the enemy (and myself), in the process

    I said that was the goal (to explain why this suggestion is inconsistent with the design). I'm not making a claim either way about whether or not the game has achieved the goal at its current state.

    If you want to make the rifle balanced with other weapons choices then there should be some sort of upgrade to it the marine can purchase as an alternative to the GL. Otherwise it makes no sense that a free weapon is balanced with a not-free one.

    Fair shout, after reading your original post again, I realise you chose your words very carefully.

    I think this is actually a very good idea, multiple secondary weapons as attachments to the LMG.

    GL
    Flamer
    SG
    Tazer (freezes ememy movement)
    Smart Gun (auto aim, track)
    Welder
    Extended Mag

    As it stands now, which is assuming we will get a HMG / Minigun, most other weapons are pointless as the HMG is a jack of all trades, yes master of none, thier was a reason it was the most popular gun in ns1,

    If we can 'buff' the LMG via augments, then it gives multiple options for end game weaponary, just like alines who will have 5 end game aliens whome are all usefull. Their is no reason why a standard LMG would be usefull at endgame.

    Not sure if relevant, but I made a megathread for LMG upgrade ideas a while ago and threw in quite a few of my own; there didn't seem to be much interest in it at the time.

    How about LMG rifles get a catalyst pack upgrade option. You buy this device for 15 resources, and it holds 3 (number dependent on cat-pack buff) catalyst packs that are automatically administered either when you take damage with LMG out, or on attack (primary or melee). You get 3 packs, and they are only used when you are not under the effect(s) of a cat pack already.
