For marine squad coherency
It might seem like a sort of wild idea, but I think it that this could really encourage players to keep to moving in coherent groups where possible.

When a marine holds their crosshair over an alien for some short time, a targeting reticle will appear over that player, visible to all other marines within view.

Players who fire rifles and most other weapons towards that alien will benefit from some degree of auto-aim.

Target lock is broken after some time or if the alien escapes sight of all marines, but can be renewed at any time by visually tracking the alien again.

This ability is passive, and takes effect no matter what weapon the marine is carrying.

This ability is unavailable until researched by the commander in some way.

Fade blink and Shade Disorient should absolutely disrupt this ability.

I think this would be a balance-able system to increase marine squad coherency and give players more reason to keep alert and cover each other. Players wouldn't need to yell out or track each other's fire in order to understand what's going on when the fighting starts.
Thoughts?

So the idea could be condensed to 2 points:
When a marine is targetting an alien, a little triangle will appear over the alien with a number inside the triangle to indicate how many marines are targetting that alien. This happens as soon as the alien is targetted. This is only per squad.
Fad Blink and Shade Disorient Nullify this completely.
That's my oppinion on this idea, I think it's really good, and can be really useful for quickly coordinating attacks on aliens.
Instead of there just being a number in the triangle, perhaps it could go into one of those upside down pyramids, with one triangle per marine targetting the alien. I don't expect there to be more than 6 marines in a squad.. .ever.
Yeah, I'm not all for the auto-aim per se myself, but whatever the bonus that is given may be, it should help players deal with skulks or pesky aliens at close range. Thus, the time taken to get the lock-on while they're at a distance can still be cashed in on once their close. Maybe make it a 10-20% damage bonus on Marine weapons? I like your idea with the numbered reticle; players could more easily decide what target to focus on if the group has multiple enemies to deal with!
High-five for the implicit sharing of information between squad-mates!
There is no need to give marine groups more benefits when they are in a group.
