Server Variables in score board

ZycaRZycaR Join Date: 2002-11-12 Member: 8263Members
<div class="IPBDescription">"server name", "actually played map", "game time&#</div>There should be at least: "server name", "actually played map", "game time" ... like in NS 1

I think it's not a big deal to do it. Add a one more row on top of score-board with all these variables (game time including).
Please put there at least the server name. Many times, when the server crash / or connection is lost ... I would like to reconnect, but I forgot on which server I'm actually playing :/

example how it looks in NS1:

    +1

I suspect UWE just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

I like the idea, I often find myself trying to see the servers name in the scoreboard.
I dont like the idea of having it at the top though, as the minimap currently easily spread out of the window, so you only see bottom part of rines team, and top part of aliens team.

These player lists also should be scrollable ...

This is schematic suggestion for score-board layout:

EDIT: Scoreboard will have scroll-bar! (as NS2 now have mouse on scoreboard - great idea :)
EDIT2: Header should have fixed height.

Oh god, that looks so sweet! But don't you think it would be cooler if the team part of the scoreboard was transparent, with slight infestation coming from the corners and sides, and some high tech hologram shiz on the marine side?

that squares are just placeholders :) .. of course there can be transparent sprites (quads).

Perhaps when you're in a game. You could have the ready room list be a drop down tab.

    The ready room tab containing.

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Ready Room - 3 Players (Click to view)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

To cut down on screen size.

I'm not a fan of a scroll bar. I'd rather everything be in view at all times.

when you play on server with 5 more people (6 in total), and you ave decent resolution (1280x...), then you will of course doesn't have scroll-bars.

But on 800x600 with 32 players on server you will have them, and it allow you to see al player's score.
(.. btw: you have chance to mute each of the players in your team).

Fair enough, but I'd rather they exhaust all options of minimizing the scoreboard first. The current scoreboard contains a lot of empty space that really should be eliminated. For example, I was able to shrink the scoreboard considerably without changing the text size or eliminating any info (current on the left, modified on the right):

I think that Zycas layout looks pretty good, but he forgot to paint where each teams header would be.
    The "Marine (X Players)" thing.

I think that text should be the same font and size as the "y carbon" and "score blah blah" parts, so it all fits on one row that is pretty thin. I think each team needs their own header, but they don't need to be so high.

Also, apart from a scroll-bar, I think the ability to use the scroll-wheel is a necessity. Even when you have not clicked to display a mouse.

2 ScardyBob: that's great, you actually fits 19 peoples into 650px height :)

Still not enough for 800x600 resolution ( there will be scroll bars on 32 players servers),
but for i.e. 1024x768 it fits perfect!!! (without scroll-bars!)

2 Feha: I forgot about many thinks as now I see : Ready Room placeholder / spectators / team scoreboard headers / ...

In SUM() the discussion was made, and I hope that Charlie or Cory or other members of UWE Dev team can see some good ideas in this thread.

    Maybe something like this?
there is a lot of free space horizontal between the columns, so that can be compressed and more
vertical space can be gained by placing the teams next to each other.
this would have the scrollbars if needed but I'm too lazy to paint them.

I know, but I think you still squeeze the info down more than I did. My point was to show that their is a lot of wasted space (and much room for improvement) in the scoreboard. What I don't want to see is for UWE to use scroll bars on the current scoreboard in lieu of making it more efficient.

Giving this a little kick, as I really want to be able to retrieve the server-name from Lua, and a scoreboard-improvement would indirectly realise this. It would also be nice to expose just about every other command-line switch passed to server.exe (amongst others: server-IP, server-port, max-slots and server-password).

Taxen0's style seems to make the most sense if you want to fit in 16 players for each team.
