Minor flashlight change for new unpowered lighting

Partly functional, partly aesthetic
If we're going to be relying on our flashlights more in the next version, then here is one change I would really like to see made to the marine flashlight:

Have the flashlight emit 2 cones of light. One is narrower and stronger than the current flashlight. The other is broader and weaker than the current flashlight.
The effect as imagined would look something like the flashlights pictured in this thread:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showth...l=1#post3337410

The idea being that a single marine lights up an area less effectively on his own, but the multiple overlapping halos from a group of marines ends up lighting up a much wider area. Looks more realistic, and provides a "stacking bonus" when multiple marines use their flashlight at the same time. As a bonus, it looks more realistic too!

This would be sweet and make add to both team play and atmosphere

Well i agree that the flashlight should be brighter the closer it is to the center of the screen, but don't you think that it is already pretty wide? it covers nearly the entire screen as most distances already. All i think the flashlight needs is a more pronounced "beam" for realism, since in a rundown mining shaft or station you'd expect dust particles to be illuminated. Eye candy, and a little indicator for aliens who don't see the surface area that the flashlight is actually hitting, but would be able to see the beam of the light and determine the location of its source, to have a little trade-off to decide to turning on your flashlight in alien territory.

I like this idea with the two cones very much. I think the current flashlight is boring even though the dynamic lighting rocks! Visible beams can help but I think whats really missing is the effect of a wobbling flashlight while running or reloading. Just have a look at the flashlight on the Left4Dead games.

I believe this is partly because the flashlight might be attached to our helmet instead of our weapon... Not sure though.

I think it'd be pretty awesome if it was attached to our weapons. It'd make reloading in the dark very risky! >:]

Yeah but it would also make it more atmospheric.

the flashlight is attached above the rifle. Turn on 'r_atmospherics true' to see

Using a flashlight is a great way to make anything your flashlight isn't on less noticable

Hopefullly there will come a point where it's too dark to notice much if nobody is brave enough to use it. Hoping the "lights out" change gets us closer to that point!
