Normal Maps

<div class="IPBDescription">Noob making custom textures</div>I was investing some time in creating custom textures possibly for a map I want to make, possibly just to create (a) texture pack(s) for download. I'm pretty much a complete and utter noob at these sorts of things, I can create images and textures, but normal/specular/illumination maps are a bit beyond my reach. Nevertheless I gave it a shot (something simple to start with) and created some sand. Nothing amazing I know, but still... what do you think?

NS2 on a sand planet would look pretty damn cool. The noise of the texture seems a bit on the large side, but I guess that has something to do with the texture size. I like it, and would very much like to see what this would look like as sand dunes for skyboxes.

Yeah the texture size was relatively small (512^2) and upscaled 4x. I tried doing the geometry displacement, but it caused some issues with texture alignment and scale so I scraped it. I might give it another shot trying out an idea I had to get around the bug.
