Sinister and Creepy

This is more a atmospheric addition than a gameplay one, but it would be really nice to have some dead marines hanging in the infestation. In hallways, against a wall... etc. With their head split open, or their chest split open with spores sticking out.

Sort of like this: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8</a>

Also similar to the dead space guardian:
<img src="http://www.downloadatoz.com/resources/201101/27/imgs/dead-space-2-guardian_500x265.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Skulls, body parts, etc lining the infestation. Maybe they could pant or wail creepily when a marine passes by. This is literally an amazing idea since we do not have bunnyhop implemented yet.

One of the rule of thumbs for NS is:
    No gore.

No to the gore, but the DI growing from marine bodies would be cool. I could see the marine's corpse fall to the ground and a few seconds later, DI sprouting and covering the area.

    Gore
    –noun
    1. blood that is shed, especially when clotted.
    2. murder, bloodshed, violence, etc.: That horror movie had too much gore.

So shooting things and seen blood doesn't constitute this?

Anyway since there is this huge distinction from seeing blood and seeing.. blood we can keep the marine bodies from being dismembered or mutilated and just have complete marines with smiling faces stuck inside DI on the walls.

Well, it's more grotesque than violent, which is the problem. We can deal with violence, until we get into the SAW brand of violence.

Maybe when a marine infected with a parasite is killed, his infected body spreads a decent amount of infestation around itself.

That's why I suggested instead just having marines covered in infestation. Besides, I never realized that aliens slashing or eating humans was the non grotesque kind of violence.

I like this idea, even if its only a small temporary infestation patch. make a cool body explosion out of it too. what I would really like to see though is bodies staying where they died, instead of just disappearing, maybe even allowing skulks to consume dead bodies for health. I know that would probably be a nightmare late game for fps, but it would still be cool.

No dude we don't want violence in this game.

But seriously, para infestation would be cool!

Yeah it could work similar to the gorge infestation spray and commander infestation ability...maybe somewhere in the middle as far as size and how long it lasts.

i like the op's original suggestion.

the whole "no gore" element does sound a little silly seeing as it is a shooter game with vicious aliens fighting gun crazy marines... but... who am i to judge. if UWE is aiming for a below m17 rating i doubt they will get it.

but to humor that arguement, how about instead of having a marines dead body in the infestation they could just have scraps of marine armor (i.e a helmet, boot, crotch guard, etc...) or a parts of weapons. It would really add to the immersion in my opinion.

+1 to original idea though... the gorier the better imo

Yes! scraps of armor, anything. I'm guessing no body parts since that offends some people. So I say complete bodies overcome by infestation or scraps/broken parts.

Weird though I remember talk of possibly giving skulk the ability to munch on marines for some regen, but I guess that's ok =D

Shrug. I don't mind a bit of gore. Hell, I don't mind <b>a lot</b> of gore. I was just playing devil's advocate... or... saint's advocate?

maybe not bodies hanging off walls but armor, weapons and equipment sounds reasonable

I think the word we are looking for in terms of NS1 is "Gibs" and i have them maxed out (more so with help of an amx plugin) on my servers. People love exploding body parts. It should be included as a server Option just like NS1. Nothing like a shotgun blast sending skulk parts into your team mates eye to give the real immersion feeling to the game when they realize they walked right by it and you saved there butt when part fly all over them.

    GIBS FTW

Charlie has always seemd like a polite and non-offensive person from what I can tell from him talking in videos. I'm not sure moving towards any depiction of ultra-violence (<--- this is a setting from a game I've played...I can't place it but it's been stuck in my head since I read this post, hah) is what he has in mind. I think the idea is for NS to be a semi-violent competitive shooter with a majority of sci-fi/fantasy type influence. I feel that it's more or less about being absorbed into playing as the role marine or alien with their unique abilities or weapons.

I woulnd't mind an additional bit of gore, but in a multiplayer too much is unnecessary and wouldn't be as appreciated for the most part. I like the idea of additional cues to give off more atmosphere -- but I'm not sure a bunch of bodies in the infestation would do it for me.

I like the title of the post, sinister and creepy; I want more implemention of creepy things. NS has never been sinister...the closest thing I can think of is being alone and running from or being ambushed by a Fade or Onos. I guess running for my life from a creature is what I consider sinister in NS... It's not Sinistar, that's for sure.

Oh...marines spawn killing and not taking down the hive is sinister...

EDIT: Ultra-violence a difficulty on Doom maybe? I think so... something oldish, anyway.

    This,

Along with the idea that when either player dies on infestation, they are absorbed by it.
And when they die on normal steel, they are broken down by nanites.
Perhaps this could tie in with RFK in the future, although I doubt it.
