What if the lerk's spore thing ignited when hit with flames from a flame thrower? That would be cool. The blast would hurt whomever was unfortunate enough to be in the cloud when it ignited.
Edit: oh man, I didn't think it was possible but someone made a really similar topic to this already. I hope you all don't flame me for not having searched, the ideas are only similar anyway.
