Toki Tori just took about 57 minutes off. One thing I do find weird is, why would Valve want to release a game at times across the globe where the majority of users will be asleep and unable to game?

    Because the publicity from having a cool ARG is more important? This is a publicity stunt; a fun, geeky publicity stunt. Valve may not be doing it out of the kindness of their collective hearts, but at least they're doing in the right way. A way that shows a modicum of goodwill and interest in the PC community unlike other major developers.

    Because we already know what happens when hundreds of thousands of people try to unlock / play a new release at the same time.

    This game is currently unavailable, please try again later!

    Someone at valve sent an email along the lines of "I bet GladOS could overclock those CPUs if she got enough auxilliary power", so I'm betting something will happen if we get to 500,000 potatoes. Which might not happen now.

    Also;

    This is true. His avatar pic is of himself before working out. I haven't seen a recent pic, but he is rumored to have been the inspiration for the tank in Left4Dead.

    Portal 2 is projected to unlock the moment I get home from work on Tuesday. Suck it, beaches.

    Is it wrong that I actually believe people in the netherlands have flamethrowers in their sheds?

    It's probably due to re-lock as Australia deems a "gun" that fires portals too offensive for your nation to play :p

    Only 6 more hours, wonder if it's worth setting an alarm just to get up and start unlocking before the world awakes?

    We also seem to be losing potatoes, fast-ish.

    It's down to about an hour now, which means if you live on the west coast of north america (like valve does) then it'll unlock at about 10pm PST. Sucks to live anywhere but the west coast tonight \o/

    Woo Portal 2 was "released early". It's still released on the 19th April for me and I still can't play it until after work.

    Aren't I glad I never got involved and suckered in to the money machine of the potato sack!

    lolf = winner.

    Tell me about it. It would have been a real kick in the teeth if you'd bought a set of good indie games.

    Phew! Spared you the expense of them having given you the complete Valve collection and extra copy of Portal 2.

    I own half of them already, although the other half I have no interest in.

    You don't buy a product you don't use. Waste is waste.

    yeah you could get the new IAMX album with that waste, which in itself might be a waste but I'm sure it'd make you look more suave than accumulating more and more bloody indie games D:

    The "Potato Champions Compilation" awarded to players who obtained 36 potatoes is turning into something of a ######storm. The pack is essentially the Valve Complete pack, with all of Valves games INCLUDING Portal 2.
    The problem of course is that most of the 36ers have all of Valves games. To make things worse, for many players there are absolutely no gift copies. However some players got the Orange Box gift passes (HL2 and Ep1) and a very small number got gift passes for the whole lot, Portal 2 included.

    I'm an early steam adopter, I've bought (if not preordered) every game valve has released over steam. Well, I was told I'd receive a Non-Hat reward for my efforts, instead I received nothing. While I will admit that absolutely nothing does constitute something that is not a hat, it doesn't quite fit the "reward" category. It seems just a bit backwards that the value of the reward should be inversely proportionate to the investment put down by the fans receiving it.

    Its not so much the fact I personally did not get anything of monetary value, I'd be fine if the reward was just something purely cosmetic that everyone got. (Even if it was simply being able to keep the Golden Potato on our steam profiles). I'm annoyed that the reward varies so greatly from person to person, with some people not getting anything because they were too much of a fan.

    Edit: It would appear my gift copies have been sorted out. Perhaps I shouldn't post when angry and tired.

    Played it a bit last night. Takes a very long time to actually get to real (non-trivial) puzzles. There seems to be more story telling than real gameplay thus far. I'm sure that will change though.
