Halflife issue

Hi everyone. I have played NS as i was very young and forgot the name of it... till today! I was so excited to get back to the game!
But i dont own HL1. I have pre-downloaded it but not purchased. So the question is... Would CS 1.6 do the trick? Or do i have to buy HL1 at the end?

Just fyi, ns2 is in beta. You could buy it and play with a small number of people ;)

it's not in the steam store yet - and yes, NS1 needs HL1 (not source).
