<div class="IPBDescription">Instead of reverting to a lame looking ragdoll</div>When an onos dies instead of a really lame probably not to good looking ragdoll model. What if it exploded in gore and spread dynamic infestastino in the explosion. The gore explosion could put a cool and gross post effect on the screen of marines. Hot damn. It would perhaps take care of some of the ragdoll and colision issues with the onos.

I got this inspiration from a thread in the general discussion arena.

I think a great example of something similar is actually in dawn of war II. When a carnifex dies, it balls up kind of and just pops with a bioplasma triggered explosion of awesome green gore.

Imagine an onos doing the same and then spreading DI in the explosion while applying a really cool looking post/blinding effect to the marine screen (*gore on screen?). THe explosion would not have to damage at all, it could just signal the death of the onos while having some gameplay elements of blinding and producing DI.

I would love to see a dev response to this, this idea really excited me visually and gameplay wise.

EDIT: Just saw the thread about gorge death explosion a bit further down the thread list Well hell, it would appear I am not alone in thinking this. Not sure which i like better (gorge or onos).

The onos is too big, that ###### would go EVERYWHERE. Plus he's more of a fearsome class, whereas gorge is a bit of a joke class.
    So gorge ftw.

Also, the onos is heavily armored. In real life, him exploding would pretty much result in pieces of hard shell flying around everywhere, leaving nothing but debris - no thanks :D .

Plot wise, there does not seem to be any reason why the onos should explode upon death. The skulk exploding would fit in but, in terms of balancing the game, it would tip the scales in favor of the aliens.

It would be nice to see dead aliens get enveloped and dissolved by infestation or maybe turning into a little patch of infestation.

everything has to explode these days

i want exploding hives, like in these old shoot em ups when you beat the boss, they should blow up with countless little fireballs

I am sticking with the gorge blowing blowing up.

Besides, as Hari said "Gorge is a bit of a joke Class" and him blowing up would just be even funnier.

But... We are forgetting about structures of the Kharaa. The harester has a bit ball type blob and maybe if that is hit then a bit of goo will come out (This does not mean that it is dead). For example: If you are meleeing the Harvester and you accidently hit the Orange ball then your screen gets covered with goo (If you are within distance of the goo).
A positive side for the marines is that hitting the Orange Ball does slightly more damage but also comes with the downside of not being abled to see if you are close up.
Ranged weapons like the rifle could be slightly more effective against them if you aim at the Orange ball but it won't come with the downside of being temporarily blinded.

These Ideas that a few people have come up with now are definitely worth a thought from the devs.

Also, for the Kharaa dissolving into infestation is good idea and I really like it but... I am not sure how they are going to implement DI and how big the areas of infestation are going to be because at the moment these patches of DI are big but in time they could be VERY small allowing the DI to spread more Realistically.

But for the Dissovling in DI idea:
It is a good idea, some people have said it about the Gorge instead but I still think it is a cool idea.
For example: If a kharaa dies on infestation then his body will dissolve and also give the surrounding infestation extra health.
I think this should only be for the gorge as he is more of a "Stay near the hive" kind of creature and because they can only build on infestation that also means they won't go out.

+1 for the idea that ragdolls should do something upon death. I think I may have read that the Skulk will be abled to eat the Marines bodies for a little of bit of extra health.

I would actually prefer the onos exploding, as opposed to the gorge. To me, it makes sense in a gameplay context.

First of all, the onos is a very big unit. So a number of different things can happen when it turns into a similarly huge ragdoll. Everyone can just clip through it like it wasn't ever there. Everyone's going to be bashing around the onos ragdoll with their feet as if it was full of weightless teddy bear stuffing, which would just look ridiculous (and yet, so many games do this). The corpse is actually gonna be blocking other players. I think the last option is gonna be an equally large nuisance for both sides, tough it could work.

Second of all, the onos is a big investment. In that regard it wouldn't be completely senseless for it to possess some sort of death throes. Think, no matter how fast it gets destroyed, it has never been a complete waste as even in death it could be a force to reckon with.

Personally, I like big bossy opponents to go out in a literal blaze of glory. Just like DooM's cyber demon exploding in a great fireball, instead of just dropping over.

For added coolness, you could even leave plenty of large, but much less interfering, ragdoll chunks of onos all over the place.

Given that the aliens are generally more able to go over obstacles, leaving a corpse for a while that people can't clip through would be a reasonable pay-off wouldn't it? Have the corpse have a decent level of health that fades over time, as DI spreads from the corpse (combined with different DI growth/decay rates to mean that this is all 'cleaned up by nanites' if in a powered area not connected to other DI) but allowing the marines chop up the corpse quicker if they don't mind. Maybe have it still as a ragdoll, but needing a lot of force to move, so another onos could push it's dead friend ahead of it as a mobile mess.

We are barely able to produce a decent performance, and people already request ragdoll interaction…

do you even know how much work synching the ragdoll between clients requires? I doubt it.
I don't know either but it sure will eat a good chunk of bandwith if theres a big enough push.

The onos is a tank. He's all muscle, bone and armour. The gorge on the other hand is soft, bouncy, and filled with gas.

Tank or not, they're still made of unknown cells that very well could be used to infest an area if not burned off.
I like the idea of corpse infection, but im opposed to solid ragdolls until the devs say they can handle it (even if it would be mega cool to block the enemy with your carcase, as marine as well - exos are supposed to be big, and a dead marine in a vent would cause major traffic jams if they cant be pulled / pushed out or eaten)

Better yet, all alien structures and units explode on death. Many lulz would ensure.
