NS2 Acronyms/Short-hand

ZurikiZuriki Join Date: 2010-11-20 Member: 75105Members
I was wondering what the sort of "agreed upon" acronyms/short-hand in NS2 are. The ones I am familiar with as being definite wide-spread acronyms are:

NS - Natural Selection
RR - Ready Room
GG - Good Game (cross-game)
GJ - Good Job (cross-game)
CC - Command Center (but applied to any Lx of com chair)
GL - Grenade Launcher
Shotty - Shotgun
Com - Commander
IP - Infantry Portal

=====

Some others I've seen:

RT - Resource Tower
RN - Resource Node
Node - Resource Node
Rine - Marine(s)
FT - Flame thrower
FF - Flame thrower (or maybe flamer-f*gs???)
Res - Carbon/Team Resources
MS - Marine Start
AS - Alien Start
ST - Sentry Turret (Team's Start?)

=====

Have a missed any or got any incorrect? Do you think there should be some "official" short hand list?

    True...I'm just thinking about the new people that will be playing and have no idea what DC is. From my time in WoW whenever I see DC i think disconnected.

    Growth = Infestation, but I've only heard it mentioned once by the devs. Most still use DI or Infestation
    PP = Power Point? I haven't seen it used[ though...

    I write SG for ShotGun

    Obs = Observatory

    PN = Power Node
    SG can be either Sentry Gun or ShotGun. Context can be helpful to distinguish, but not in all cases. I think ST=Sentry Turret is probably better.

    I can't think of anymore. I'm sure there will be some once more features are completed.

    Oh yeah:
    JP = Jetpack

    I don't want to be a grammar nazi but technically none of these are acronyms. Most are initialisms.

    If I'm not using voice chat, I usually use the first letter of the Alien species in text chat. If I quickly needed to say that there were 2 Lerks in West then I would type "2 L in W", or 3 skulks somewhere could be "3x S @ ____".

    S - Skulk
    G - Gorge
    L - Lerk
    F - Fade
    O - Onos

    A bunch of other things could be done with 1-3 letters too.

    Those that seem to have several names or such (just to give input on what I use myself):

    SG = shotty = shotgun (cross-game) (I use that order, sg, if someone asks, shotty, if they ask again, shotgun)

    PPTX = power point (no idea why someone dubbed PN that :S)
    PN = powernode

    Other random notes:
    RT = resource tower - seems handy, as I usually call them extractor, which is long to type. I might end up using this, or a variation.

    AA = advanced armory - I never seen it used, and I always read (and always will) AA as Anti-Air...

    Some ns2 acronyms you missed
    FWLBT = Fans With Lights Behind Them (there is a few variations on this)

    BUS = Big Unannounced Secret (afaik dates back to ns1, but is often refered to for ns2 aswell)

    FF = friendly fire (cross-game)

    N1 = nice one (cross-game)

    AW = awesome whipping (not really, but I usually say aw when I get my ass whipped and figured I could add a joke in the list xD)

    And how did you miss this?!?
    NS2 = natural selection 2 (you only had NS)

    FWLBT - Fan with light behind it (edit: damn you feha :D)
    F4 - quit
    RQ - ragequit (actually l4d language), also F4
    WOL - wall of lame
    howar - to be awesome :P
    co_ - combat
    ns_ - an actual natural selection game

    proc - processing
    maint - maintenance
    power - power generator/power
    gen - generator/ power generator
    equi - equilibrium generator
    noname - hive that was later called "mother"
    you can go on with the map locations if you want :P there are just too many.

    NS = Natural Selection

    NS + 2 = Natural Selection + 2

    So really, no need to include NS2 *as well* as NS.

    Oh and F4 = Quit?
    Ef-four sounds nothing like a word, I'm guessing F4 on the keyboard RR'd?

    CS = Command station (lvl1)
    CF = Command facility (lvl2)
    CC = Command center (lvl3)

    Though, I frequently see people use cc (as in command chair) for all three. For resources now, I like to use (although I'm not sure how common it is)

    PRes = personal resources
    TRes = team resources

    I use CC for all three, which is why I referenced it on my main post.

    F1-4 were the join team/leave round keys

    F4 is the back to the RR key, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRealFlayra#p/u/21/PxfjfBeC6tQ" target="_blank">the initial NS2 Trailer</a> has a reference to it as it was usually used like this, look on the door:

    The annoying thing for me is SG means sentry gun to me, but shotgun to everyone else.

    Well ST is Sentry Turret, and shotty is more common than SG so yeah...

    Also:

    Exp = <team> Expansion
    bXXX (where X is a number) build XXX (b163 = build 163)
    CatPak/CatPack = Catalyst Pack
