Observatory Scan for NS2

<div class="IPBDescription">Updating the observatory scan using the new effects.</div>So I mentioned this in the actual thread for the new vision effects, but I wanted to put it here for proper feedback.

With the advent of the new vision effects, the observatory scan needs to be brought up into the NS2 world. The scan ability should be tweaked to be a continual lasting repetitive scan that works on a pulse system like mentioned in the other thread, instead of the single ns1 ping scan. So marines find their way into a dark infested room, ask for a scan, the commander starts a scan, it pulses blue outlining everything for a few moments, it pulses blue again outlining everything for a few moments, it pulses blue again outline everything. This would be sick and hella creepy. The balance would be that it drains energy from the observatory while it is active.

Maybe it is generated from the observatory and ripples out through the whole level or it can be like the old ns1 one where the commander selects the origination of the ping; I can't think of what would be more appropriate.

+1 that ending 'sweep' effect would look fantastic as a marine scanner sweep.

Perhaps even when the pulse scans over aliens, they glow red through the walls to make them even more obvious.

Ya. I was thinking more of some sort of indicator of current alien health too. I don't know about glowing red though as it would mimic aliens heat vision to much, which I'm sure will make it in. Maybe a glowing blue outline with some sort of health indicator of some sort; maybe a kind of HUD overlay that displays their current "condition" too, like healthy, injured, and finally critical. You don't want the aliens and marines to overlap.

Not 100% sure how possible it would be though since I have very little idea of how the affect actually works.

Yeah a health indicator sounds like a good bonus as well, maybe like left4dead's coloured outline (red/green/yellow) depending on health percentage.
