<div class="IPBDescription">super fun Gameplay influence</div>This is my awesome idea!
What if the dynamic infestation slowly grew over the electric lights in the map in each region that was heavily populated by aliens so that those areas would be almost completely dark?
BUT
What if the dynamic infestation ALSO gave off infra red light that only the aliens could see, so that while humans would need flashlights, the aliens would be able to see almost BETTER where there was dynamic infestation.

Of course it goes without saying that if the DI was lit on fire everybody would be able to see pretty well.

But wouldn't that make the game more fun? I know the aliens are a bit overpowered right now and this would add to their advantage, bu I think this would be a cool feature and the game isn't to the point yet where it makes sense to discuss balance issues.

Quick overview of what this would do:
+Make removing infestation an important part of marine attack
+Add atmosphere (and atmos-FEAR) factor in attacking deep alien territory
+Improve alien uniqueness and immersion for players with the Khraa with eerie infrared glow effect in infested areas
+Take further advantage of the dynamic lighting system
+add 100 points of fun value.

Thank you for humoring my idea.

EDIT: After reading around, this might also fix the issue of aliens not having a flashlight in a pretty cool and unique way.

EDIT EDIT: A smaller point: New hives would have little to no infestation, so there would be no advantage until the hive has been in place for a while, this would allow marines a nice window for pushing the aliens back before their evil takes hold on the station.

The Devs mentioned something about Kharaa getting better vision in the dark automatically, no flashlight on/off required. I'm sure once that's implemented, the darkness will become our friend >:]

I figure that lighting involving DI will look similar to the static infestation we have on Rockdown, where orange spots give off bioluminescence as they do currently.

Wouldnt it actually mak aliens need flashlights even more, seeing as the area would be dark? Might be interesting when they got this "ir-flashlight" you mentioned.

I dont see how this is a new idea tho (apart from glowing di), I always imagined that when a hive is placed the di would slowly grow over the room, and after a few minutes covered it all. I think it would be cooler if it didnt block all light tho, and instead let a weak glow creep trough it. Would prolly give alot of atmosphere, aswell as be a notification for flamethrowers where to fire if they want light.

    offtopic:
Aliens arent evil! It is the marines who are trying to eradicate alien lifeforms simply because they dont want to share/surrender any territory. Wouldnt it be better for us all if they just let the aliens have their habitats?

Well the DI would provide light for the aliens so wherever it blocked visible light it would provide the IR light for aliens. That was mostly the idea. Though I would definitely be satisfied with cool ambient glowing from the lights behind the DI or the DI itself that anyone can see.

I also like the idea of automatic darkness compensation for aliens too, I would really like to see something like that in the game, and it would make the dynamic infestation lighting a bit obsolete.

Further off topic: No! There are not enough resources for both to survive! Without the precious resources of these various locations the human race would simply fade away! We Must fight for our survival and it is the duty of mankind as the superior race to annihilate all who oppose!

But the aliens are spreading, even further into human territories, killing off everything they touch. So no, they must die.

    good stuff

things will progress as planned by UWE, visually and with gameplay it will be pleasing, just have to wait.

should work well with the new alien view. so long as theres enough glow for marines to see

darkness is always a bad thing in a multiplayer game

i like the idea of infestation growing over the lights, but instead of making them dark how about it creates creepy green and orange lanterns, and fills the air with a mist.

the same mood can be achieved by with annoying anyone
