It is good to put some faces (and reality) behind the names.

By the way, is Cory allergic to Kryptonite? Just a thought.

    Great stuff guys.

<!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b>YES, the Hitdetection if you bite a marine is very well now, great work UWE!</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
The minimap is great too ^^
Finaly evolving %, and lerk flying is way better, because crouch not end in "being a stone".
But was only 1 time, the new hit detection is wonderful!
    Flamethrower...any changes?
Feels like no changes, even wallshooting.
The Rifle bug is still in, you have like 100 bullets ^^

    - As marine I get stuck at almost everything, even on the stairs.

    - When I evolved into a gorge, I crashed at the moment the egg bursted (edit: multiple times, not always).
    - Skulk leap shows the wrong animation.

Perfect combination of personalities behind and the game itself. Hope to see more like this.

You should see the British contingent. We are unfeasibly beautiful.

I noticed NS2 mappers don't put invisible ramps on top of their stairs. In counter-strike it was really annoying when mappers didn't do this because it was basically impossible to aim while running up stairs; your aim would bob up and down frantically. In NS2, this might be even worse because not only does it screw up your aim, but strafing up stairs causes you to actually get stuck.

Please consider adding invisible ramps on top of the stairs to smooth out the game.

New patch is great. But I think you guys are too lazy to create a video for every patch ;)

Agreed. Running down the stairs are causing micro-airtime between each step, and causing inconsistencies, such as preventing players jumping/leaping,

    my build 162 feedback

    praise:
    - FPS IS AWESOME! i can finally track skulks more or less like NS1 (not in later game though when performance degrades)
    - new m-UI is awesomely polished, and hotkeys work

    major bug:
    - alien commander has two "planes" that interfere with all building-placement (only tried rockdown).
one is on a level just below com-cam, and one is about where the level roof is (probly IS level roof).
i can go way to the side and sometimes get around this by placing from the side, or finding a loophole near a wall, but it's really hard.

    bugs:
    - multiple landing sounds for skulk still exists (they play really fast now)
    - so does rifle looping
    - the "darat"-sound i mentioned (<a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=110837&view=findpost&p=1826630" target="_blank">here</a>) in NS2 Progress thread is still there.
    <!--quoteo(post=1826630:date=Jan 24 2011, 06:29 PM:name=weezl)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (weezl @ Jan 24 2011, 06:29 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1826630"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->... annoying "bleepy" sound you hear all the time?
it goes "darat", "darat-darat", and sometimes multiple stacked "dara-dara-darat"<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
mostly com/play M, can only remember hearing it on M team.
i would guess it's some kind of error msg, like "nop, i can't go there" when ordering a worker or "nop, not 'nough res".
    - alien chamber upgrades are still instant (but cost res properly now!)

    annoyances:
    - markers for "exclusion area" must be shows be shown around buildings
    - workers need collision size
    - why is running leap and GL such fast upgrades?? (a personal opinion)

    THIRDED.

In NS1, it wasn't all that uncommon for mappers to additionally plaster the walls & ceilings with invisible ramps to make life slightly easier for wall-walking skulks.

Watched the video just now and read patch notes. Played about before doing both of these and the responsiveness and lag have been improved significantly as has the collision detection. Awesome work!

Loving the video changelog compared to the traditional text format!
You guys should keep doing those occasionally. As long as they don't take to much time ofcourse.

As always keep up the superb work;)

The person recording should use a tripod -- it would really help the video. I think short videos like this would be great to briefly discuss major changes and explanations. I can understand it being hard to keep up though...your podcasts slowed down and you stopped altogether -- but I don't blame you. It's just easier on your part and saves time to write something up and move on to what you need to do next (work or a break).

It helps to see visuals when describing these changes, which were included. I don't mind seeing a talking head, it's nice to associate a face with a voice. Best get everyone/office exposed to the public more and feel comfortable -- I'm sure you'll be getting more attention in the future.

I haven't been able to try out 162 yet, but I will when I have time. Sounds like people are happy about the changes made. Keep it up.

LOL , what have you guys done UWE ?

Theres some really funny bugs and stuff going on I found. You need to sack your playtesters , that is if you were paying them :P ( joke by the way ).

Bugs I found casually playing about :

    - Surfaces seems to remember where bullets hit them and replay a hit ( all projectiles ) , occasionally remembers up to 3 hits and it retains the hit memory for quiet some time too ... I would shoot with the pistol 1 shot, wait 10- sec and shoot a different spot and both hits would be shown on the surface.
I would imagine this would be costly in performance remembering projectile hits ?

    - Gorge spit seems to have aquired a rubber like property , if you hit some surfaces ( notably metalic ones ) the spit bounces about quite a bit... in fact one spit projectile slowed down by the bouncing remained in the world long after being shot.

    - Armory behaves strange , on one armory the arms of the other stations would open instead of the station I was approaching , health and ammo was handed out as if it was med spam and ammo packs ( rectangle teleport animation at the Marines feet ). This wasnt consistant to all Armories, the first one I built had slightly different but not normal behavior with the arms of the stations.

    - Shotgun reload animation is jerky and I think the reload audio cue plays multiple times rapidly... its sounds odd at least.

This isnt a complaint just feedback , the patch is actually a decent patch.
Still need to give it a go on a few more online matches.

    I do have a serious question :

Why is NS2 the only game I have that makes my HDD work so hard ? Loading up the game and the HDD is working like crazy , way more than any other game I have and for so long. I tried defragging the drive to see if it was fragmented but no change... long load time and serious HDD thrashing ( and no its not paging either, got 4 gigs RAM and I run my PC efficiently ).

Thanks, i tried "cheats 1" and "add bot", so close...

Is there a command to show a list of commands?

I tried "help", "cmdlist", "commands" etc, but no luck.

The video update was definitely a good idea if not only for the reason that your fans (i.e. us) like you guys and a big part of the reason UWE is gets so much support is because you're not a big faceless corporation.

It seems like over the past two years the lack of personal updates and so on has probably helped cause some of the wane in interest.

    Good update!

    just had the weirdest bug:
bought SG as usual, and then as i got it the sound started looping a ~0.1 second snippet of the "receiving SG sound" REALLY FAST originating from the same point at the armory where i was standing when it started.
i'm pretty sure this happened exactly when i pressed X to close the armory menu...which i did fast after buying SG.
    ALSO
i got a mix of 1:st and 3:rd person view, all fps elements were there as usual, with the addition of "my" playermodel!
standing still playercam was inside the head, running most view was blocked by the head.

wish i had come up with the idea to do this before i disconnected :P
    but here's a "screenshot" of console :D

Played a bit last night, on tram. Wasn't sure if there was a performance improvement or not, I will have to run my fraps bench that I was running back around b155 on tram to see. Was just lagging too badly. Might have been the server, that's my best guess, since everyone was warping around. Was hoping the physics changes would increase server performance, but there still seems to be a bottleneck elsewhere.

I was happy to see marine weapons are put away when you're building, although you still see the weapons of your teammates. Small things that add immersion, I like it. Lots of sound bugs, though, especially the rifle firing sound loop.

This video was a great idea! I don't need a video for every update, but from time to time it's a very welcome relief.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->More talking heads or less? Do you prefer us to focus on the game, technology or the personalities behind them?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Depending on the updates:
If there are some bigger changes in gameplay (like Onos added) i would prefere a focus on the game. (less talking heads)
If there are many/bigger engine-changes a focus on technology would be nice. (don't know whats best presentation-style here)
And if the update is kind of a bulk of small changes, I would look forward to hear more about the personalities behind it. (more talking heads)
