Here comes admin-mod with ban :D<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Are you sure? As far as I know ns2 has no file functions (unless you use a custom dll), making you unable to save stuff to files.

If you are sure however, please give me link to documentation, pretty please (puppyeyes)? I want it!

EDIT: Nvm i found it. I suspected GetUserId, and GetId, when i saw them mentioned in ns2.exe. :P

    <!--quoteo(post=1823509:date=Jan 12 2011, 07:10 AM:name=FocusedWolf)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FocusedWolf @ Jan 12 2011, 07:10 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1823509"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->
For those interested, it concerns the 'GetUserId'-method of the 'ServerClient'-object. It returns an integer (a double actually, as all numbers are floating points in Lua) that contains the digested form of the classic SteamID format, which can be computed like so: STEAM_0:n:x -> 2x+n. So if we have STEAM_0:1:12345678, the SteamID-number returned by the 'GetUserId'-method will be 2*12345678+1 = 24691357.

I'll have a new version of the mod out within a day or two. Amongst other things, it'll have auto-login via SteamID, banning (also via SteamID naturally) and improved stability.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Wait, does that mean STEAM_0:1:25000000 = 2*25000000+1 = 50000001 and STEAM_0:3:24999999 = 2*24999999 +3 = 50000001 (the same)? I know it is not very likely that 2 people would get same result, but it means it could happen :S. I guess it would be better if it was STEAM_0:n:x -> tonumber("" .. n .. x).

Made a first test run (as far as i am possible to do so):
The only things that i could really enjoy was the new Marine Expansion. It looks cool, and i enjoyed walking around there a lot. Only thing i noticed so far:
    - Within the square with this globe projection, there are some wires hanging from the roof till ground. They are not passable, i think we should be able to walk through them, not collide against and think "WTF.... lag?".
I also noticed a new bug within this build, before builds never had this bug yet:
Bug Description: Server browser refused to show me the server list.
How i found that: Tried to join a server with 7/8 people on, not connected because last slot was taken by someone else. Refreshing the list didnt helped, going back to the "Main"Mainmenu and back to server browser didnt helped either. Restarting game didnt helped either.

UWE please do me and a lot of your Closed Beta Tester a favor and solve the performance issue a lot of people (including me) have. I and maybe the others also are not able to test things properly. I would like to enjoy the GAME as it is right now, as well as to help on balancing in later builds, when the major bugs are fixed.

Please patch NS2 BACK to 160.

I can't EVOLVE lifeforms in this patch. Error message "You need more room to evolve".
Rubber-banding worse than EVER - including alpha.
    Biting IMPOSSIBLE.
    Performance DECREASE.
    Numerous other problems.

Game is back to being COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE - not just MOSTLY UNPLAYABLE.

You realise not everyone has this problem? I had 4 hours of gaming last night, although it wasnt perfect it was definetly playable and very enjoyable! Was anyone playing on the "rada sucks aus" server? pretty epic matches going on there. Go back to 160? yeah right.

Bugs ive found: Empty server list (has been happening for a few builds, isnt a new bug): this happens for me too, restarting game doesnt fix it, restarting router doesnt fix it, however restarting windows7 does.
Theres something weird going on in RR, how does it choose priority of people to join the teams? In full servers last night I was 1st to the marine/alien team portal and have just sat there at the gate why others run up and go into the game, quite frustrating! (this happened more than once)

Very nice, seems much smoother running than 160 though i only played for 5 mins

    Good job UWE! :)

Your prior number 1 in gameplay balance should be the flamethrower, marines get it (easy as hell atm if you dont have a no-brainer team) and its gg 100%, sooner or later, and now with this strange leap its even worse.

I dont know if it should be moved to tier 3, make buy or research a lot more expensive, lower damage... you must think about it before anything else in gameplay... that or <b>RELEASE ONOS POWAH RIGHT NAO</b>!!!!1 :D

I did a short preliminary test on an empty server as a marine. There are so many variables when playing on a full server I can’t get a good comparison from one build to the next. The Comm. UI is much better. My FPS doubled from 20/30 to 40/60 with an average around 50. The lag spikes were shorter and fewer. It looks that this build is a plus for me in performance and game play.

You "realise" everyone is still having multiple problems. Sure they don't have to be the exact ones I'm having, but everyone is still having gigantic problems that impede basic game functionality and it's been this way since alpha. This is still an alpha.

Hell, in your own message you state there are multiple bugs and problems in 161.

Where is the advancement? Where is the movement forward? 2 steps forward, 4 steps back with this patch.

Alternatively i would like to see an Alien upgrade that would reduce damage received from flamethrower by 25% and reduce the after burn duration by 50%.
You could call it something relevant like Endothermic Slime, perhaps something a gorge could healspray at other aliens and structures?

You nailed it, it is a C++ module.

Only STEAM_0:0:x and STEAM_0:1:x occur, it's a legacy-thing. Thus, said formula applies without problem.

This error code comes if I try to start NS2 from launcher. If I try to start the game directly on steam it just crashes and no error message.

moving it to tier3 might be good idea. But here is what most games are like.
marines rush into hive, build rush command center - commander gets flamethrowers.
everyone leaves the hive, aliens kill everything but marines already have what they wanted.

So not only flamethrowers themselves overpowered, you don't lose any upgrades if even aliens destroy marines second command center.
in ns1, I remember aliens had great tactics in destroying marines buildings so marines would lose their upgrades.
It was great tactic, and it worked like charm, but now it doesn't really matter if marines hold any position they don't lose any upgrades when buildings go down.

    flamethrowers

    1.still blind you
    2. damage over time ticks so fast you die split of second -
3 .nothing can out heal flamethrowers, gorge can't, crag can't and hive can't
    4. it goes through walls, objects through anything - spam it at any direction, and you get kills

so to sum things up, when aliens kill marine buildings, marines MUST lose the upgrades tied to those buildings - force marines to build and defend their own buildings. (same idea with aliens)
And flamethrowers has to be fixed.

So instead of my first report performance seems to be the same now. Maybe the servers were hammered of whoknows. Even tram was playable with about 10 players.
Gameplay still very simple because it's either a marine FT rush or skulks rishing to kill IP. But well, its beta. Hopefully we see some more gameplay features soon.

I have a +10 fps while not in combat but it still drops to 5 fps in combat. Max fps is 45 average is still 10-20. Nice progress, I can almost taste mah ns2 :D

Definitely noticing an increase in performance with this latest beta build. My FPS hasn't really improved (but it was never a problem before, always quite high), but the overall smoothness of everything is certainly noticeable on my end (less lag on respawn, not being jerked around while moving near as much, etc). Nice progress so far!

Regarding the flamethrower balance, I wish to suggest the removal of the blinding effect temporarily as a quickfix. While I realize that effect is still a WIP, it feels too broken as you often cannot see and combined with marines jumping and lag, you're effectively dead. I know nothing of the internals, but I'm under the assumption this is a quicker fix than attempting to balance the game this early or trying to fix the effect.

Don't know about the portals, but the console method is much faster. Just type j1 (for joining marines) or j2 (for joining aliens) in console. I can usually be the first one on either side that way.

Not really an easy fix. We've already removed the blinding first person effects that were causing issues, but remaining blinding problem is due to the 3rd person effect when it is pointing directly at you. So, there's not really a good way to remove or tone those down currently, and we don't want to do a lot of work on the effects until the range and cone of fire has been ironed out, and flame lag has been programed in to get the flames to trail behind when aiming with the flamethrower.

The obvious solution would be to fade particles out as they approach the view origin of players, except for the player firing the flamethrower of course. Alternatively fade them out at a certain on-screen size.

That should stop people getting entirely blinded by it, and also improve performance when being shot due to less overdraw.

Of course if you don't yet have that function handily available as a particle system operator like source does, that is far easier said than done.

I like the comm changes alot..
much smoother. keybinds kinda work (kinda ^^)
and that there is the current location shown in the upper lefthand corner AND that it's displayed in the chat as well.

but there were some things which arose my attention.

like sentries actually costing 20 carbon each.
MACs crawling to their destination (moving really slowly)

    <b>RECYCLE is now instantly executed!</b>

and some more I can't recall atm cause it's late ^^

Clitcher found when unnamed marine walks above the map and shoots through wall.
Bug when alien cannot evolve by clicking the alien figurine.

I played a game on this build, new marine rifle balance is good. I can kill skulks with it, although i still have problems with lag and stuttering, especially on tram.
Whenever I enter a new area it stops for about 5-10 seconds to load it. Kinda sucks. Otherwise good improvements. The new areas of tram are very visually appealing.

All the ladders need to be changed in this game, it's hard to get out of them properly (new tram start marines, kinda hard to get on top if we aren't close to the ground) :D
