Particle Loop?

I placed a particle entity with the "steam_rise" file in my map, set to an "endless" repeat style, but when I actually test my map the particle effect will work for a good second or two then flicker and turn off. Loop seems no different. Anyone know why that is?

do you mean "cinematic entity". I seen this also but only once, double check and even try a different steam cinematic to make sure it's not just a bugged file.

Well I placed a "particles" entity, and selected the steam_rise from the list. I see a "cinematics" entity, should I be using that for effects?

I've been using solely cinematics for everything; skybox, moving fans, particle effects, etc. Not sure if that's the right way to go about it but it works.

Alright I'll try it out, thanks for the reply.

Actually all of them except the fan can only be done using a cinematic file. The moving fan however can be easily created using a prop_dynamic with it's animation set to either fast, med, slow

Well the "cinematics" entity seems to be what I was doing wrong in the sense of a constant looping of the effect. But I still have a problem with it flickering. I'm going to try a few different configurations and hope it isn't my map causing it.

Ahhh, thanks. I was wondering how they set up a smooth, continuous fan animation.

I had the same problem, figured it would go away after a while. ;)

The fan stutter is more apparent with this build as is the game-play stutter, as far as i can tell the cinematic it's self is timed for a smooth loop so that's what leads me to server/engine performance causing the twitch in the animation. I noticed the steam rise animation also does this flicker when it is set to "continuous". I would wait for optimizations before trying to remedy any of these strange and unusual things.
