Im having trouble with models...

I've read the wiki and setup everything but when i try to convert them using builder i get the error "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." also compilemodel.exe crashes, this is just a simple test box made in google sketchup so i don't get why its not working, any ideas?

Also im unsure if it matters or not but im using a psd photoshop plugin for paint.net as i don't have photoshop, to be honest i really don't understand why they're limiting us to this format, surely it should have the option of a more open file format?

dunno if this helps but i used the paint.net .psd plugin for textures and it failed so i think that plugin is fubared. Gimp worked though.

I've tried gimp and also went over the wiki help again from the start, i checked and double checked and everything appears to be right, two things copy but the builder gives errors for the two dds files.

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Edit: also while the model appears in the right folder it has a tiny file size and nothing shows up in the map editor except for a blank thumbnail under props.

that photoshop plugin worked for me. it doesn't work in 64bit however, so i don't know if that's your problem or not.

if you get the checkers in editor after you're done, then there's something wrong with your material file.

So far the only thing i thought worked was the model but it turns out when i go to add it in the editor nothing appears yet theres a small model file in the folder, i don't think its converted properly.

Has anyone tried making and converting a simple model from the current google sketchup and had success?

What are the steps you are taking to get the model into the editor?

I agree, limiting textures to PSD format doesn't seem at all right, for one thing it's an absolutely gigantic (uncompressed) format and is definitely converted to another format during export.

The error message you are getting may have something to do with the filename being too long or containing spaces or nonstandard characters. Either that or, as the editor is meant to work in tandem with Photoshop, it's simply not possible to use different software to create your PSDs.

I once had some problem with converting .psd to .dds as well. It isn't written anywhere, but I think the .psd file has to be in 8-bit color mode (default is 16-bit) or atleast it solved my problem.
Also you might wan't to setup the utilities path to the builder, as mentioned <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=110540&view=findpost&p=1792638" target="_blank">in this thread</a>
Furthermore some builder issues solved <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=109382" target="_blank">in this thread</a>

Thanks, i will check and retry at some point, im sure i have the right file names and setup but if the model and textures fail to convert something can't be right, however things do appear in the right folders like the material file.

Ok i've been trying to get models to convert again and i just don't get whats wrong, the builder either crashes or appears to convert but the model doesn't work in the editor, i've tried different models and checking settings, it should work but it doesn't.

Can someone please try importing a model to test if its just me or not?
