Bug: Some sort of display error

<div class="IPBDescription">following the purchase of a weapon, or spawning as an alien.</div>Seeing as it's been about a day, and there's been no indication that anyone has even seen this, probably due to it being lost among the myriad other, 'more popular', bugs on getsatisfaction:

I figured I'd get some help.

My old 7900GT did something similar to this in CS Source when it was about to die... might be a bad video card or driver.
You might try underclocking the GPU a little...
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->"GeForce GTS 450 1GB 810MHz"<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Since it sounds like it's pre-overclocked, if it does work better when you underclock it, you might want to contact the video card manufacturer.

Who knows, maybe this is a problem with the engine, but I've never seen this

The card is brand new, nothing is overheated or broken, but others with the same card seem to be having the same kind of problem.

Hmm, I've seen Hydras stretching like that after dying, but nothing like it with regular weapons...

If you are running windows 32bit : Read the green blob of text under Correct Quailty Settings. Explains why this happens on 32Bit or with low VRAM

If not then thats a new line of investigation but usually its because of what is xploaned in the stikeh post.

So based on that, the issue is the 32bit OS. Hmm... My exact situation is described there - 4gb system ram, 1gb vram. How can I find out how much system RAM or Video RAM is mapped to each? I guess for now I could try Awful settings until I upgrade to 64bit, and see if that helps. I don't fancy taking out a stick of RAM tbh. if necessary after that, I'll try
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->* In your GPU settings panel, Lower the number of Pre-Rendered frames to 1 or 0
(Results vary on systems changing this setting up and down will get rid of or create problems like: Input Lag & Stuttering)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Edit: "Ridiculously awful" didn't help.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Occurs in two cases that I know of: Joining the alien team (the moment I spawn), and purchasing a weapon (the moment I press the button for a shotgun/flamer/whatever). If I am killed (by a fade dancing around in our base for instance), and respawn as a marine, my graphics are back to normal. After realising this, and attempting once again to buy a shotgun, and coming up against the same graphical error, I 'kill'ed myself using the console - graphics back to normal. In the alien case, it's a no go, I've gotta 'rr'.
One thing to note, text and chat still work. Well actually, I'll expand that: the game runs pretty much otherwise, but I can't do anything if I can't see anything.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
