Alpha shadows not viewable in game?

<div class="IPBDescription">Shadows not WYSIWYG?</div>I think I'm having an issue with shadows, I have a walkway with one of the grating textures (the ones with alpha) and in the editor I have a spotlight under it aiming such that it casts shadows of the grating against the ceiling. When I load the map in game those shadows are gone. The light is still there, I can see the specular stuff on the wall pinpointing its location, but those atmospheric shadows using the grating I made in the editor just don't transfer over.

Is this a known issue?

You're sure you have r_shadows set to 1? If not, type the following in the console:

    r_shadows 1

yep i made sure they were on by disabling and then re-enabling, shadows were there but not shadows from alpha textures. Perhaps the map editor has a glitch where it casts shadows for alpha textures on faces that it shouldn't? In the editor light was under the face, so maybe I should make it a double face?

Did you duplicate and flip the face with the grating texture so it actually has a backside, which the light uses to cast the shadow?

thats what I was thinking was the issue- the editor has a bug for shadow rendering (it projects shadows using alpha textures even when the face is not facing the light source). I'll experiment with it in the future to figure it out.

OK figured it out, what was going on was that I was using the grating prop (the floor panels) and shadows were disabled for the objects. The editor doesn't respect that option, so it shows the shadows even when they won't be visible in-game.
