Did something change with the flashlight?

<div class="IPBDescription">so good</div>Not sure if something changed with the marine flashlight this version, but I noticed its looking really good. Notably when marines are entering a no-power room and its casting shadows everywhere and off other marines. Later on in the beta it should get some additional effects so it looks like the Left 4 Dead flashlight (with the neat rainbowish light flare when shined in the face).

It does a good job with building atmosphere too. It's the small things that really add to a game.

It might look better if it didn't cause a seizure every time I moved to the right. Letting us rebind the flashlight seems like such a simple thing.

+1 for flashlight rebinding, i cannot play as marine until that is fixed.

Is flashlight on F ? if so what's the problem ? been playing ns1 like that for many many years.

Can't comment on the differences as I only played about 2 games in 156 (and those usually crashed), but I just spent like 3 hours playing 157 with no problems at all.

I was playing as aliens, and spawned as a Skulk. Went into a room, took out the power, and saw a group of three marines with flashlights on walking slowly down a hallway into the large open room where the power node was. I climbed up above them and hid in a corner, saw them shining their lights around before they even entered the room.

They rock for building tension, and making you feel positive hunted as an alien...they're damn cool now, whatever they did.

Edit: I think people take issue with the flashlight being bound to 'F' because it's right next to 'D', so when they're strafing right (by pressing 'D') they may also hit 'F'. They'd rather it wasn't so close to the movement keys.

Using esdf allows even those with small girly hands to reach more keys with their left hand.

But if you are really NS hardcore, you play asdf :P

Map your keys in the options file.

Open Start>Run>%APPDATA%\Natural Selection 2\options.xml and you will find the ToggleFlashlight keybind to edit there for now.

i'm a big fan of the alt-control-escape-delete keys for movement, but for some reason it causes my game to lock up and go to some 'task manager' crap that i never installed on my computer. must be some virus.

Heck I know of someone who's playing with TAB+QWE for movement... To each his own, but I just don't see the problem with F. I never knew people had issues with it. I wonder how big your hands have to be for it to be a problem :P

F is fine as a default, but seriously, try holding down F for a second and watching your flashlight spaz into a strobelight. That's what we get whenever we strafe.

As to why I use ESDF, I enjoy putting "Use" on A. You get more keys to the right and left of your hand. It's the natural position for a person's hand on a keyboard while typing (index finger on F, which puts my middle finger right on E, too), so I don't have to move my hand to type a message.

I personally enjoy wsad, while voice is on Q (old half life had some troubles with voice on mouse3/4 iirc) and map on my thumb button on the mouse (3 or 4, cant remember right now).
