I'm so sorry to break the news.

Leslie Nielson was a bit of a hero of mine and his life and his comedy were a blessing to all of us. This feels like Douglas Adams all over again. :(

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want us to be sad about this.

On an unrelated note I've heard some of the details of his death:

Leslie Nielsen was shopping, when he slipped on a avocado, falling through a stand of melons and into his shopping cart. He rolled through a window and onto the street, where he ran over several cats and grandmas, when he was stopped by a fire hydrant and catapulted into a sex shop, where he was impaled by a vibrator.

Onlookers describe it as "very sad" or "absolutely hilarious".

Not only was he a great comic but he also stared in one of the greatest works of golden age sci-fi - Forbidden Planet.

    No it doesn't! 84 is a respectable age! 49 isn't!

Anyway, never much of a Nielsen fan, but considering his popularity he must've done something right. I lift my teacup to you, sir.

This isn't meant to be a thread hijack, however it seems that Irvin Kershner, who has directed The Empire Strikes Back, also has left us :(

    Sad sad news.

Yes, we're serious, and don't call me Shirley.

I'm still not sure it's actually happened. He'd be the type to fake his death and show up at the funeral. Absolutely one of my favorite personalities.

If it did happen, the world is now a bit dimmer of a place for his loss, even with the memories and movies living on.

    And read the eulogy himself.

Thank you for taking the bait Swifty, its what he would have wanted.

Leslie Nielsen was superb in everything he ever did. The fact that the Naked Gun movies are still funny 20+ years on speaks volumes.

No, he'd want us to enact a stunt at the funeral where the coffin slides out the back of the hearse as it goes uphill, crashes through the assemblage of mourners and sweeps one of them away. Said mourner proceeds to ride the coffin downhill like a funereal Slim Pickens. The coffin finally crashes into a wall, smashing itself to kindling. It turns out to be empty, save for a note that reads "I.O.U. one stiff. Had to borrow yours. Return it later."
