    the fade is so little and seem very week....
    Its more like a comic skulk standing up, there's no more the frigthening aspect we liked in ns1

    I sorta agree. On some shots the skin somehow reminded me of a wetsuit.

    In general not what I expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing at all.

    Now that people are talking about how some of the aliens have human features, it actually made this Fade design a little cooler to me. Think about it, the idea of these two species trying to "out-evolve" each other for survival is a big theme. If the aliens "saw" an advantage in a human form, wouldn't a skulk evolving into a more humanoid shape make sense? It's like a skulk grew feet instead of its back claws and stood up more on its hind legs. It still uses those forward claws for some support while walking, because that's what skulks are so used to. The head and mouth of the Fade also bear similarity to a skulk.

    Don't ask me how it gave up wallwalk for teleporting, though, unless you want to get into a really strained discussion about aliens emulating Phase technology.

    The model was actually leaked awhile ago but it was suppressed before everyone got ahold of it.

    I guess blink is a stronger interface with the bacteria than any other class has. That would explain the purple light and dust as well, nanite x bacteria fight.

    Ah well at least more people get to play around with it, so more people can complain and hopefully send in bug reports... We shall see hmm... That is if the game is indeed somewhat better then build 154... I'd hate for NS2 to get that "omg wtf is this crap it is unplayable" responses if new people stream in without knowledge of development status...

    It looks pretty good, but I don't really like its face. The mouth and eyes make it seem pretty strange, and it just doesn't seem to have the same personality as the other aliens for whatever reason.

    The blinking just looks amazing. The head does look a little off (especially up close where it looks a little goofy instead of inciting terror), but it's nothing major.

    Dissapointed. Looks like its low res skin. The design looks interesting. Yet dull... and bland. Im feeling a little bit like after the Apple anouncement on the Beatles

    I think Blink effect should look more.. organic than energy-based, like a cloud of bacteria/spores/smoke. The lightning effect suits TSA with the technology, imo.

    Low res skin? Even if you're basing this on the video or the screenshot in the OP, which would be silly. It looks pretty detailed to me...



    The look of the fade... I'm undecided actually, it looks like it belongs to the others. It does have that quality of looking like another race (bacteria infected like the others).

    it's not a fade, it's a junky alien.. it's more cominc than anything, i'm disappointed..
    I want people to scream "FADE UPPPPPPPPP" with adrenaline in their voice
    not saying "fade is up ahahah" rolling on the floor, laughting



    Anyway the first thing to fix, is the lag feeling, in gameplay or even in the video, it seems very difficult to bite a marine, like if the head of the skulk was 10000lbs to move
    there's a kid of inertia with the mouse.

    Very nice and Scary !
    But blinking in clocked mode is very high tech for a powerful fade.
    A bit bright red/brown smokes through the blinking way may be a good guide to define where the fade goes.

    Otherwise this fade machine is really powerful and scary then others.

    I think he is meaty, tough, and scary for sure. No 3D model can produce proper lasting fear just from looking at it. What UWE has done is create a tough looking killer alien, and created the fear using exceptional blink effects. When you see that thing pop into existence right beside you in the darkness, swipe at you and disappear, you are going to be scared.

    I lol'd when the hunchback of Notrekharaa came running through the door, then I thought it's probably a joke video(not watching it on unknownworlds.com) and finally the disappointment struck me. I'm sorry but this fade just doesn't look intimidating. Maybe change his skin color to darker and make the eyes just plain yellow? that'd be a start.

    The main difference I notice is the brightness of the skin, though that might be because of the lighting.
    Also, the eyes. The old Fade looks more intimidating, while the new one kinda looks human. We need moar alien eyes! ಠ_ಠ

    This pretty much summarizes my feelings. That plus releasing beta at this point might as well be a joke. I've had a total of two "playable" games in the alpha so far and they were both within the last week in servers of less than 6 people.

    Mostly because of the eyes, I can see the new fade being a candidate for a plushie.

    However, I think the fright factor will come from the blinking and near-instant killing. How often will humans have a chance to look it in the eyes, anyway?

    It does look too human. The jaw needs to be longer (more like a wolf's than a human), and some better detail on the underbelly. I'm not terribly impressed, but then again, it's hard to base it off of the NS1 fade, as the res was just too low. I never really looked at the NS1 fade in that much detail, but it is surprisingly similar to the new one.

    Now heres what happens if you just cover the eyes like in ns1:

    Yeah, I dig the glowing eyes a lot more. I think that if they did a glowing effect over the eyes, but had the textured eye as it is now in the background, it could look really cool too. Who knows if that was their plan all along anyway, but the glow in the eyes is definitely the right look for NS.

    But what happens if we add the big hump from NS1 and adjust the head size just a little bit?

    Now lets tilt the jaw a little bit so it looks like it extends more:

    Looking pretty close, but maybe a little too much like the lerk/skulk. How about making the mandible a little stubbier like the ns1 fade?

    The new design is interesting, definitely the most radical overhaul. I'm not sure hes just right yet, but all of the subtle detail and integration of the other art elements like the bone and whatnot is great. We'll see how he does through play and over time, still really cool!
