Also, don't bash PhysX just yet. While I know it's had a rocky relationship with ATI cards at times, the general API is fairly solid and physics on your GPU is a seriously awesome step in terms of optimization. Blame the driver morons.

Dude don't get all hardcore calling people morons and stuff, i was merely just saying my bad experiences with some physx enabled games. It is also personal preference wehter i like havok better or not. It isnt that i dislike PhysX i just think it can be utilized better and be implemtned better into games, i have played numerous games with it that have had alot of issues and the companies dont fix those problems, making the games unplayable on amd video cards with physx option turned on in those games (Sacred 2). Which worked perfectely fine at all times with the physx option off.
Anyway there is no need to possibly start a flamer war by calling people names and crap man.

Between who? Him and the ATi driver developers, I think they have better things to do.

And CronoRay you seem to be all over the place.. first Spellman wasn't attacking or insulting any of us, but calling the developers of the drivers morons. Then your response to Revi was completely irrelevant and had actually nothing at all to do with what he posted.

I aint hear to argue with anyone dude and i am not all over the place i am in one forum thread talking to people, not trying to start trouble just stating some knowing facts about some stuff is all :P. Anyway i am not gonna bother going on about it anymore i am just gonna wait for the ns2 patch to come on steam so we can all play it :P. I didnt mean any offense to anyone, it can be easy to misinterpret what people mean by any given thing over the internet, so it is not worth getting into heated arguments over nothing.
cant wait for the new patch. Its a shame there is no new content added this time but fixes were certainly needed.
i was knid of hoping the hydras would only be placable in areas with a destroyed power node (especially when dynamic infestation is added) to stop early hydra rushes on the marine base.
physx based games often require physx drivers to work correctly which need downlaoding from nividia website. Even if you have an ati card you still need those drivers.

Yeah the patch is mainly just a huge fix patch to improve gameplay performance all around as much as they could :P.
As for the physx drivers i am aware of that but i always had the up to date ones and they never made a diff for me or my friend, and we both have 5800 radeons that are really good cards :P. Not reallly saying that all games for my card that run phsyx are broken alot work some just dont, Pirates of the Burning Sea works fine on my rig along with games like ut3 and some others, correct me if i am wrong but i think frontlines fuel of war also used phywsx along with crysis and those games work decent on my rig with my amd card.

Leap doesn't seem to need research, despite what the changes were supposed to be.
Thought I found a bug where a crag tried to heal a constructing hive, despite the fact that it was placed at the first hive, but couldn't replicate it.
Hopefully networked performance has improved as much as the single player FPS. Will check that out later :D
One beef I do have with the Havok phsyics at the moment is how the pieces of destroyed marine structures are kicked around. atm it just looks like playing HL2 all over again, which is, like, *SO* 2004<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Just wondering, are you guys deleting an updating still or just updating? I've been doing that since the beginning but was wondering if they've cut the patch size down?
CronoRayCanada, British ColumbiaJoin Date: 2005-04-13Member: 48354Members, Reinforced - Shadow
I just let the update go by it'self, it dont make much of a diff to uninstall and reinstall the whole game witrh the new patch when it would be about the same either way if the patch was similar to the size of the full game.
Last patch they broguth out only took me like 5 mins or so to dl with my internet so i found no point in killing the game install from steam and going fresh.
IIRC Physx runs using the CPU if no Physx hardware is present (most 8000+ geforce cards, or Ageia Physx card). Most games contain options for advanced physx (sorta like detail levels). With a hardware physx processor, higher levels of 'detail' can be used, resulting in nicer looking effects. If you have an AMD/Intel card/IGP, the advanced options are turned off, and the CPU handles the basic physx effects. NS2 most likely doesnt have complex enough physx effects to require hardware acceleration.
Most of my gripe with Physx comes from the fact that their CPU driver still uses x87 IIRC, and they show no interest in revising it currently.

The Games i had problems with i can only remember of one at the moment but it was Sacred 2, and it had one option for my amd gaming rig, and that was either on or off. When i turned on PhysX for that game it brought the game to a crawl with my cpu even though my cpu usage was not maxed out or anything unless it was killing my gpu performance i aint sure. But either way i know that some other games i have played have had similar problems in that fashion. I just cannot remember those games cause it has being awhile since i played them and can not recall those few games right now.

Haha wow, that is interesting stuff. so basically Sacred 2 with PhysX was killing my cpu by only using one core instead of mutlicore threading technics ultimately bringing my game to a crawl due to lack of cpu power to run the physx effects in the game regardless of my other settings being on all low or off lol.
