What fps gamer are you?

<div class="IPBDescription">because every forum has one.</div>When you play any kind of first-person shooter, theirs always the usual camper, the long distance person, and the guy who stands in the back and watches the action. So I ask you, what fps gamer are you? Its always interesting to see the replies and how they react when they discover no one but themselves are campers :D

Pick a flavor, be sure to combine these to fit your style:

The Camper- These guys rather hang back in a spot and pick off that unfortunate player to walk their way. Bad campers pick predictable spots and die a lot more then others would. Good campers always pick unpredictable spots and change locations often.

The Quick Camper- Same as a normal camper, but they move more often and never stay in one spot for long. They avoid large scale attacks and firefights, as they have better things to do; whatever it is.

The Dogfighter- The "Mainstream" players, or what most of us are. They like action and always go to choke points were skirmishes are usually held. It doesn't matter if were you are in the map, these guys will be fighting the battle for you.

The First Arrivals- The guys who like starting fights when they were kids ended up starting most battles anywhere on the map. They are the players that make a difference and are veterans of the game. It doesn't matter how they got there before you, it just matters what they done before you.

The Support- If its being a medic or a sniper, they arrive on the scene with teammates to help out the battle. They always like company, and prefer to help out indirectly and will follow veteran players into battle. They heal you, give you ammo and cheer you on through battle. Often called, "The Other Guys" because they do the real work.

The Long Distance- They always want to be in the thick of action, but don't have the skill or guts to do it. So they hang back and take out the enemies with long range weapons or explosives. Doesn't matter what gun their using, they got good aim.

The Frontiersman- The guys who hang back and make a plan are the players with the best score at the end of the round. These guys do the dirty work by clearing out a base, securing a capture, or assaulting the base. They are extremely good players who usually have the other guys to help them. They usually make a difference in the game.

The Soloists- The players who prefer to go attack the enemy base by themselves and either failing miserably or winning amazingly. Tend to have good scores or horrible scores when the game is over.

So, what fps gamer are you? :D

    Varies.

I like to basically cheat, shoot people when they can't see me, camp to get the surprise advantage, use a long range gun against short range enemies, all that stuff.

So probably camper/long range. Anything that gives me an unfair advantage so I don't actually have to aim.

Those are some pretty silly terms and descriptions you got there.

How about, goes in, shoots, dodges, reloads on the go and constantly moves while shooting targets and doesn't look for cover until uber-1337 helicopter or some crap shoots? I guess you'd call that the "Deathmatch Loner Nutjob with Aim" type, or something.

I prefer stealth and flanking when such is available. No easier way to kill someone than if they don't know you're there, after all.

Your soloist is actually called rambo...

    I am a camper/quickcamper/long distance/support.

Depends on my current weapon and mood.
I really like to ambush enemies, but I do not prioritate unpredictable spots, but instead spots I can flee from easily.

For example, lerk in tram hub have this vent its good to sit in (and its quite predictable), and I mostly sit there simply to gas and get attention. Then I flee back and while they stare at it scared, I come back trough the door to tram hub, shooting them in the back (or sometimes keep them occupied waiting for friend skulk to bite them in the back) XD. Works suprisingly well.
And now this tactic is useless as I told you guys about it :P

Using gas I also like to support other aliens, as that way I can make marines go in the directions I want (or cause alot of damage).

Other times I just sit back in a hard to see location, sniping stuff while friend aliens are keeping marines occupied.

Most often I am a patrol kind of player. I fly in a certain pattern, often involving marine spawn. This way I try to lure them out of their base, then return and create havoc, and as they get back, return to patrol (which happens to regen me XD).
Sometimes this is combined with camping, I sit in a an area enemies often comes to, then ambush them until I take to much damage/kill enemies, and then I move to another spot not far from there, likely with sight over last spot to kill whoever wants to retaliate.
People very rarely pick up on the pattern ;), altough when they do I have to change it...

    Frontiersman without hanging back/support combo.

If the game allows frequent respawning you must comply with the rules and never afraid to go die, either to clear a path or just scoop up traps to save those behind you. Whenever possible I suicide-run to revive good players laying in the crossfire. If a chokepoint is particularly thick with enemy fire, I try to flank around, even if it takes ages to hug the very corners of the map. Other times I snipe people behind the frontline, because my team often disregard them and get themselves oneshotted as they charge the closest enemies.

The last fps game I really played was BF2, I would normally go with the medic class and could easily do any of those roles but I would often just run to the back and take the under defended flags.

I don't really identify with any of those. I'm more of a semi-kamizaze explosive ninja, jumping from buildings to C4 your tank, lobbing nades from two blocks away or ninja mines where you least expect it. I tend to favor pistols, just for the style.

Im the one who abuses game mechanics and uses gimmicky and annoying load-outs. Riot shields in any game are perfect for this, as are smoke grenades (best when thrown at friendly snipers). Hardcore game modes + Last stand + deagle in MW2 is a barrel of laughs, 1 hit-kill retaliation.

This varies a fair bit depending on the Game in question. Alot of these catagories don't work well in NS, or don't work well in CS, or whatever. There is no medic in CS for example, so there's not really any way to be a super support style player. Then there's other things like if you play TF2, and choose the medic, that doesn't necessarily make you a support style player. A medic can be an intensely offensive class depending on who they choose to follow, or it can be an intensely stratigic class, or defensive, or whatever, but it does all those things in a supportive way.

For most games, Soloist (rambo) fits me best, I tend to be a high risk high reward player, but at the same time I try to very rarely take meaningless risks.

Oh yes. If there is a "joke" way to kill someone, I will attempt it at any opportunity.

My favorite Planetside kill was crashing a dropship into a crowded (enemy) courtyard and killing 21 people in a single hit :D

I did that. Then I did it again with a Lodestar. Then the timer on my Galaxy was up, so I did that one again. So many hate tells...

I typically fall into support roles if there's a dedicated one (yay TF2 Medic). However, I really enjoy the finesse of markmanship so I almost always avoid bullet spam and pick quick precise weaponry. Not stupid sniper rifles, but single-shot assault rifles for picking people off at medium range before they get a bead on me, but enough stopping power to snap and blast someone in the chest at close range.

That's probably by far the best use for a lodestar.

To be fair it was an attack of opportunity, I didn't go out of my way to do it the first time around. I'd dropped my outfit mates off at the tower and was told to ditch the galaxy. So I did :D
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
By far the best use for a Lodestar was to support a large vehicle offensive with it. Being able to repair and rearm your vehicle at a Lodestar was enormously helpful if the nearest friendly base was far away because it cut down on travel time for damaged and respawning vehicles. And if there was no air tower nearby or it was in enemy hands OR it was too well covered by enemy AA, the air chavs were profoundly grateful for having a base to operate from.

Just remind yourself that there were good reasons why we all quit. Don't fall into the nostalgia trap. Planetside was a great concept and an okay game, but the execution was flawed and ultimately prevented it from having lasting appeal.

Currently playing black ops and sadly theres only a couple viable weapons... ok well not really, but the famas is just so freaking strong it's really hard to top the meters without it.

I'm usually charging in head first and trying to take down as many as possible and just keep moving, I try to never stand still.. Had a solid 10 streak in COD a couple of times already so that works pretty good.

    I'd call that playstyle hectic.
