The new patch is great!

First of all, love the new Lerk flight. It's fast as hell and a real joy to use when you get good at it, and has enough of a learning curve and difficulty to control that it's not overpowered. Kinda like strafe jumping in Quake.

The in game lighting looks so much better.

Commander experience is a lot LESS buggy, though it's still a buggy mess, it now works like 70% of the time. Those of us who's first instinct is to go for resource control to help our win are pleased by this.

Lag is still a real problem.

First match I got into on an aus server (lazy servers took 15 hours to update) someone said "wow, from the forums I thought it's be broken as hell but I got in game and it's working really smoothly" and everyone agreed. Later we get quite a few people mentioning how fun the game is even as it is.

I'm practically drooling over "fixes on the way" and new content we might se in the next month.

Best $40 I ever spent.

Lerk roost seems broken. I couldn't roost at all in this patch. Lerk movement is better, but still not as good as NS1. And yeah, it's annoying when your Drifter/MAC takes your order, moves there, but doesn't actually build anything. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries for it to actually build.

Power nodes are buggy. Only the one in marine start seems to actually do anything. Sentries built right next to destroyed nodes elsewhere function perfectly. Sentries are also way overpowered. One hit from one leaves a skulk with just a few HP, and it can kill a gorge in about one second.

######beard where are you mate I couldn't find ANY Australian servers yesterday (our time). I'd love to join up and capture some gameplay. I agree that this patch can be alot of fun. I loved seeing your post - There's alot of positives in B152 that are getting drowned out but the overarching lag issues.

There were none yesterday because basically no one had been on them in months so they weren't exactly a priority to update for the people hosting them. The three servers we have should be up and visible now.

nsarmory had 25 players last night according to my server browser, GOOD GAWD the bloodshed must have been awsome or, it was a giant rave room with people warping to the beat? But anyways i have seen alot of servers here on the west coast that give me low pings but unfortuanatly i can't get a good connection/FPS after the fourth person joins.

The forums, and even the official twitter feed, made it seem like there were serious lag/server problems that made gameplay unbearable.

However, looking at the NS2HD videos on youtube, it is obvious that as long as there are not too many people on the server, and you have a powerful enough computer (especially video card), the game is playable and even fun.

I think the initial reaction in the patch and twitter threads, are the problems experienced when hundreds (thousands?) of hungry fans are all trying to connect to the 9 available dedicated servers immediately after the patch was deployed.

I think all those that experienced those freezing in the ready room issues need to try again now that demand on the servers should be less. That said I played around a bit on my own server and whilst the aiming felt sharper and hit reg seemed to be working much better, I was getting more 'rubber band'ing and worse FPS than in the last patch (although still just about playable), maybe that's more to do with my little laptop straining under the pressure.

Delphic: I think you are right. It wasn't entirely clear to me what the recommended specs are for the alpha. I'm sure that the game will get optimized to run better in the future. For now, it appears that you need a good video card and CPU to run NS2 in a normal video mode with mostly smooth results.

I'm guessing that you need at least the following:
A $150_ video card (like the GeForce GTS 450 or Radeon HD 5770)
A Dual Core 3+ Ghz processor (like the Phenom II x2 555 or Intel i5 650)
    2 GB ram

Good find. The new fade blink makes me happy. The only suggestions I can give is making it not toggle off after the first blink, to make blinking around easier.

Yeah blink is very cool. I like onos as well but I don't get what jump is supposed to do for him.

I'm not wild about how much vertical boost the Lerk gets from each flap, especially when trying to start from a standstill. Trying to do a quick start from the ground launches you all the way up to the ceiling which can make you stop entirely. I think it should be a little lower than now, but still higher than NS1 to restrict flap-spamming a bit.

Fade blink is kickass, but I would prefer it if you held down alt fire to aim and released to blink. Also I think the delay after swiping before you can blink is a hair too long.

I'd like to think so, but I don't know, I can't ever get on, every time I try connecting to anyone my game crashes.

I've still got high hopes, and the patch apparently has made some peoples' work better. not sure why it's so selective though.

It's how alphas work. Performance has not yet been tuned so that it is standard across all systems.
