You ever notice how many times that guy raises his eyebrows in the 5 hour energy commercial? It's fairly excessive.

Charlie actually mentions in the most recent interview that he knows about the "hidden dangers of caffeine" and does not drink excessive amounts of coffee, just 1-2 cups, which is quite reasonable. Everything in moderation. Except NS2.

sorry but this whole article is completely bias .. for starters its another one of those natural living sites .. you know the ones .. this bull###### plant will cure you off everything .. but that medicine you have will kill you.
Firstly everything in the world has damaging effects.. EVERYTHING! thats just how it is.
second please watch this video <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3yzXXPeLo0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3yzXXPeLo0</a> it gives a view on what most of these sites give as good advice,

One other point to add is that the article is written by someone paid to promote the lifestyle .. there is science used in the article but .. only science that backs up their point of view
at no point does it point out the benefits of caffeine.

The last thing I'd add is if you want to follow a lifestyle, that's your choice .. but don't go around trying to convert others. You really have no right.

p.s. explain to me if the whole natural living movement is such a good thing, why do they charge stupid prices for everything? and completely cover their site in ads .. its all just money making bull###### imo .. and worryingly just like religion it easily attracts the stupid and those who want a quick fix .

I didn't read the site, but this is what I know myself.

Problem with caffeine is that the way it works is to occupy the melatonin receptors on the cells which makes us sleepy etc. caffeine doesn't do anything except making our cells receive less melatonin. However larger quantities of melatoning/caffeine in the blood makes the cells produce more of these melatonin receptors. Thus heavy coffee drinkers end up needing more coffee to get the same results in staying awake. This is what causes them to be more drowsy if they don't get their coffee etc. The melatonin has more sites to bond to making the need to sleep that much more accumulative. Going down on the coffee should make most of the excessive receptors recede and normal celloperations to continue.

    just FYI.

    Exroath has a good point.

However I think the tone of the original post is that naps are good and too much caffeine is bad (despite the airy-fairy money making site it pointed at). I think we can agree on that!

All you really need is a bit of common sense .. too much of anything is bad .. even too many naps (The horror! i know .. but its true)

That site is truly one-sided 'health obsessive' **** material. Then again, I'm solidly in the camp that makes fun of people for paying four times as much for 'organic' tomatoes, or the ones who ended up getting the 'second class protein' tag dropped from legumes because it was 'hurtful'.. instead of the original intent, listing them as a less-nourishing protein than meat. Which they are. Or the people who stick to vegetarian diets because they are 'death free', when most of the things they eat are still alive as they're being digested. They just don't have eyes to look soulful, so the guilt about killing something to continue their own life is gone.

Funny bit is, as much as they harp on caffeine, aspartame is a much worse problem.. turns out that it's quite a bit more addictive than caffeine, or even nicotine. Why sugarfree gum chewers tend to keep packs around, and go through them quite quickly.

Noooooooo talesin, you were doing so well until you mentioned aspartame. Now you are on the path to the dark side, of ignorance, thinking that what you put into your mouth will affect your body. You'll probably end up rocking back and forth on the floor, sucking your thumb, wearing tin foil, and drawing pictures like this:

    <a href="http://img12.imageshack.us/i/deeskidd.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8282/deeskidd.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

    i wouldn't of said 3 years ago:
but nothing is better than regular resistance exercise (30-60 minutes, 2-3 times per week) a cheap set of dumbells is more than enough, and buy a book that tells you how to train your entire body (not just your arms)
<b>dont make excuses for yourself</b>, there are 168 hrs in a week, use 1.5-3hrs a week exercising.
(no running or cycling, cause the pollution you inhale outside is worse than smoking, unless you live out in farm country, even then its bad for your knees (and skin) if you live in a tropical climate in the long run)

and eating only fresh fruit and vegetables(not supermarket fruit or veg, its not real and has no taste), whole grain breads, rice and pasta (no white breads, pasta or rice unless its just before you exercise). Meat/poultry/fish - only if you can get free range (non free range stuff is filled with hormones and antibotics etc - Remeber - Roman gladiators were vegetarians!) nuts and beans/legumes. Get a good balance of protien, fats and carbs and vitamins. (use an online calulator to work it out for your body size).
Dont believe anything any supplement or healthfood stores tell you - do the research yourself online (on a wiki, not a company website).

Basically don't eat anything a cave man wouldn't eat - nothing processed in a factory or made by teenagers.

Go to bed and wake up at the same time 90% of the time - set yourself a "time for bed" and "wake up" alarm. (this is probably the hardest one to achieve our of diet and exercise, but its just a matter of getting a good routine going that suits your lifestyle) you need atleast 7hrs sleep everynight - 9hrs if you give your day all you can. but don't sleep in on the weekends, so that it ruins your routine, you won't ever need to sleep in if you get the right amount of quality sleep each night.

And of course no drugs(incl caffiene), smoking, alcohol if you are really serious - but good luck with that until your 25 or over, because its just way too much fun :P (but tbh you don't miss out on any fun)

I know this probably sounds stupid, and if someone said this to me 3 years ago i wouldnt have said whats the point - but now that i've been doing it, its really worthwhile - it feels like you're actually alive.

also don't expect to change overnight, it really does take atleast 6-12 months to get in to a good lifestyle and eating habit.

also last one if you have read this far:P - SELL YOUR TV, and even radio - its just a marketing portal (including the shows, not just the Ads) don't blast yourself with sales people all day and night. (doesn't mean you can't watch your favourite show or movie at the cinema or on your pc). Nothing on TV or Radio is real (incl news), its tailored specifically by people getting paid a lot of money to subtely change your perception of reality, so that you spend your money on things you don't need. Remeber, everything on TV is there to get high ratings so that they can make money from their sponsors (the ads you watch).

i could go on, but i doubt anyone will read so far lol :) and no i don't believe in UFO's, government consipracy, etc and i don't want your money.

If you think a caveman wouldn't eat ramen or chocolate, you're on crack, sir. Just because they weren't available at the time doesn't mean they wouldn't eat them. Also, where does your information about roman gladiators being vegetarians come from? The only information I can find regarding that is from heavily vegan-biased sites, and journalists who grab heavily from them in order to meet a deadline. Yes, the isotope markers indicate a heavy intake of grains. They also indicate that gladiators were MASSIVELY overweight for the most part.

A regular sleep schedule... I've been dreaming of that for so long. It's amazing what a year studying abroad can do, heh!
  • DelphicDelphic Join Date: 2006-11-02 Member: 58262Members
I agree about what TV and radio is trying to do to you, and there's quite a lot of sense in schkorpio says, although citations needs for some of the facts. And I wouldn't go so far as "don't eat anything a cave man wouldn't" I mean... I don't really like badly barbecued meat and most plants are just bloody poisonous.
