Well a sticker isn't that far away from it :) Decals are basically 2d images which are temporary or permanently added to a surface, overlaying the texture. Think of bullet holes, spray images (as in hl), blood on the floor from shots etc.
This is not taken from google, but this is my best description:
Decals are the ability to overlay images over existing geometry, models or texture work. They can be animated and implemented in a number of ways. They also contain a transparency layer, so they blend into each other or the image below. Stickers are a form of decals, in the way a race car may have decals applied to them over the existing paint work. Such as advertisements or 'go faster' stripes.
They exist (pretty much) in every single modern game, and are a way of creating more visually dynamic environments.
Examples could include (in NS2 for example) bullet holes on wall and floors, blood marks on players, slime on the floors, Gorge foot prints on the floor, possibly used as part of Dynamic Infestation or as way point markers on geometry.
I imagine it is 'fairly' simple to implement this on flat planes, but more complex to programme on complex geometry - such as blood splats on models.

I believe this has been the plan for a looooong time. Sounds like the comm can't just drop alien stuff anywhere; it's the Gorge's job to prep an area for building. Sounds like an interesting way to keep the piggie valuable, even if he can't build directly. Plus, laying infestation "traps" that the Marines have to walk across could act as an alarm system. :D

I know this was a joke, but I would love to see something like this implemented. I think it would be great if the gorge bellyslide only worked on areas of Dynamic Infestation. It would be pretty cool as well if the gorge can "spit" infestation out ahead of him and also slide on that to 1) spread it faster and 2) get away. I envision it kind of like Iceman shooting ice in front of him to get around. Also, if spitting DI was energy based them you would only be able to do it for short periods of time. Anyway, pardon my random musings.

And why couldn't they? marines have flashlight =O I think it'd be fair ... When a node goes down, it's killed by an alien right? It seems right that he gets the advantage out of it, those 3 seconds of darkness could let you kill an human if you see better than him, and the feature could be passive, something like when the dark goes on, it smoothly auto-adapt (like human eyes but faster) However if it's passive it would have to be only on high darkness, because I think it would be boring to see your screen brightness change every time you turn around... like we see in a few next-gen games that overuse HDR lighting...
