<div class="IPBDescription">Mockups to Current</div>Lady and Gentlemen, I present to you all the mock-up of the Commander View from May 2, 2008 that UWE made and the screenshot from last update.
So let's pick it apart! Did they go in a better direction? Maybe only in some ways? Well you guys can decide! here they are.
<div align='center'>
Mockup

I personally hope the minimap somewhat will resemble in the end the one show in the mockup, it just looks sexy. but overall, I've liked the direction they have gone.

What's all your guy's thoughts?

i agree that the minimap in the mockup is way better but i think the newer screen shot is just using a placeholder (atleast i hope so :S)

i much prefer the slight angle of the newer screenshot. It showa a little more detail, making it a little less dull.

the chat screen in the centre of the mockup seems a little too distracting, im glad thats gone.

all in all i like the final product more.

I like it. The first was too... cartoony, maybe? And the actual viewing area seemed small, zoomed in. I like the new one. The only thing from the first I liked was the minimap.

I like the slight isometric view much much better. I wouldn't worry about the mini-map, that will definitely change and look much more slick. Charlie even stated the pings aren't in the game yet. Ideally dynamic squad groupings will still be in the game and the only feedback I have is to make the menu slightly more transparent. I'm excited to see the finished product on release.

    +1 for the newer one.

Having the camera angle non vertical is nice.

Make the UI more transparent and I'd be sold. Less important is making an symbolic interface for the map view area instead of a "what you see if what you get" minimized version of the actual level. Transparency is goooooood for non essentials elements of any commander UI.

The viewing angle is better but I prefer the cyan colour scheme in the mock-up.

Prefer everything about the new one besides the minimap. It looks more user friendly.

The mockup looks nice but is hardly practical, I can't read the minimap because the geometry is visible through it.

Solid blocks are good for utility, maybe a small amount of transparency but not much.

So basically everyone likes the second screen but they wish to have a better mini-map, preferably one like the one in the first screen. Shouldn't be too difficult for the devs to do.

I prefer the first one in terms of menu style, perhaps with a bit less transparency. In terms of viewing angle the second one is definately better.

The Mockup isn't that bad. Actually i like it's color scheme and the transparency more.
Also the selection-circles are much better done in the mockup(i.e they are bigger and visible). On the new screenshot, you can barely see that the buildbot is selected.

There the mock-up mini map is the only thing that should have stayed. But everything else is much better.

I think you should be able to move the perspective, via mouse wheel or + and - keys, but I do like the blueprintish style of the mock minimap.

i like the colour, and the transparancy of the old one (tbh the new one just looks like starcraft)

they both however are waaaaay too big. they need to take up as little of the screen as possible

update: good hear that the middle part of the screen is now 30% smaller (twitter)

Agreed, this would be a very nice feature to have. I would love to be able to zoom in and out like startcraft 2.
