Portal 2 looks WICKED

That's right, wicked. OR maybe rad is the word I'm looking for. In any case, it seems even more awesomer than Portal 1.

Here's a recap of the videos released this week. For all of those who felt that Portal 1 was too easy, then perhaps these videos will make you happy.

Aaargh the guy's voice is horrible.

It's probably because it's the normal voice for where I live which means the entire game feels like a really badly made mod or something.

Visually however it looks very nice.

Hopefully that horrible ball won't be in too much of it.

Looks like some interesting technology additions to the engine as well, assuming the trailers aren't massively prerendered, if we are getting proper dynamic light sources it would be very nice.

They stated the voice for him was one of the employees. It's temporary and will be replaced. Thank god.

    Oh that's good.

His voice isn't bad, it is just totally unsuitable for the role of a small sentient computer in a ball.

He'd be grand playing a rogue or something in an RPG if he added more gravel to his voice.

I like the new glados voice, more emotive but still very close to the original, suggests the character has developed somewhat.

I think the voice is perfect, and hope they keep it.

It's the same voice she had at the end of the first game, isn't it?

Anyway, I dunno about the ball really. I question Valve's dedication to the silent protagonist. The temporary voice has kind of a comic quality to it though due to the contrast to all the other talking stuff in there.

iirc, that stuff about speed/bouncy gel is from this game, another digipen student thing (game is a free download and is fun).

    Yay! I know games trivia!

Portal 2 looks more complicated than the first, which is cool. Then again, before portal itself came out, all the videos of it looked insanely complex and utterly impossible. Crazy that we're now used to that. Also I am glad that voice will be changed.

Personally, I'm hoping they keep the ball-voice from the video. Sharp contrast against the turrets and GlaDOS, makes it easier to tell that it's a 'friendly' (or mistake it as one, depending upon plot twists). Even if it's pretty certain that as a friendly it won't be sticking around for too long... really, what would Portal be if you had to schlep that ball around with you through the entire game? Would be nice to have it pop back every now and then, possibly becoming a friendly counterpart to GlaDOS, but again pretty unlikely. Almost certain just to be an in-game backstory mouthpiece, and tutorial method before it gets dumped into one of the many Aperture Science furnaces as a nod to the WCC.

For some reason Wheatley's voice reminds me of Black and White guides. Brr.

I personally appreciate a little more quiet sidekicks, but I guess he suits into the portal world fine.

Yah, I suggest everyonw give this a run through. I did a little while ago and it's quite fun. It should give you an idea of part of what Portal 2 will be like.

It reminds me a lot of the allied tank in the RA3 tutorial, for some reason. It's not actually a bad voice, just not one particularly suited for a robot guide.

I hope they don't use glados' voice (or the same actress doing another voice).

I'll throw in my hat with those that like the Wheatley voice. I think it matches Portal's style quite well and will be sad if/when it gets replaced, unless of course the new voice is even better.

Agreed. The character itself is great too. Being afraid to drop from the rail and telling you to turn around and all.

Quite different I think, it's somewhere halfway between the starting voice and the ending voice.

It could just be the way she speaks though, considering at the end all she did was yell at you.

Cameras can show what they record. Some might have learned this the hard way.

Portal 2 is pretty much the only commercial game I'm going to be bothering with in the foreseeable future. Except for the occasional TF2 game when I got bored enough to forget how many damnable spy counters there are.

Only if they have a display screen on them, or have been hooked up to a TV or monitor, which is a bizarre way of viewing a forum, especially as it'd be behind him.

Ah well, looks to be awesome with coop (Gmod has had this for a while didn't it? Of course not with all the cool puzzle thingies and all). The engine seems shinier as well...

I would think it's on X360 because the portals are bound to the right and left triggers
