That is sweet. I may add something like that.
One thing I would like to do is make it so that if the aliens control a res node in a specific area, then the windows and stuff would close off stopping the light from coming inside.
The map looks great, keep it up :) Oh, the escalator reminded me of the fact that you can't have 2 floors on top of each other, because that wouldn't work for commanders. I guess you're aware of that already, though. I hope you weren't planning to do that :3

Actually, there will be level over level. Most of the top floor will have openings in it so the Commander can see to the bottom. But certain places will be closed off from the Commander view, so he can't drop health/ammo for the Marines.

Could probaly be fixed if the commander could switch between levels. Shift+1 for standard level, shift+2 to see the floor above and so on, or simply shift to toggle the view of the commander up and down ~ mouse wheel?

Oh look I made a sun! <img src="http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/1776/sun1w.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Oh yeah, it moves! <img src="http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2828/sun2.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I'm trying to get it so that it moves really really really slow. It moves pretty fast still. Something else I would like to do is to add a light to it so that it changes the way the light looks inside the map.

Alien world, alien asmosphere :)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It's not the colours of the gases that colour the Earth's sky blue; it's that rayleigh scattering depends strongly on wavelength; 20% of the blue light gets scattered in an atmosphere as thick as Earths, but only 5% of red light.
Blue(thick atmosphere) or black(thin atmosphere) is the default; you don't get other colours unless something interesting is going on. E.g. the butterscotch colour of the martian sky comes from suspended iron oxide dust particles; the greyish white on an overcast day comes from mie scattering on small water droplets etc.
Judged by your screenshots, I think your map could use a bit more color. Grey floor, grey walls and yellow color just look a bit boring. Because of the greyness, the red walls in marine start at the doors look a bit out of place. Since marine start is some sort of landing bay i guess. Stick some tiny blinking colored led to every shut door (not to paint the room red, just for a highlight). For example green/white/blue light for unlocked doors, red light for locked doors. The lunch room is too dark imo. Who likes to dine in darkness (ok the aliens) but its a human spaceship afaik :P I dont know how important darkness is in the game actually and there are people who like dark places. But dont you want people to actually see the map you made rather than darkness? I like the new bright hallway more than the old one, though it looks a bit like pimp my spaceship (golden floor, golden walls :P)

Yeah, but uranium can also be very pretty if you pick some more interesting compound. Mixing a few percent of various uranium oxides or chlorides into glass you can get a glass-ceramic that fluorescess yellow and green when exposed to UV light. It's usually called "vaseline glass" or "depression [era] glass". I have some vaseline glass marbles; they're not very radioactive, but easily distinguishable from background with a geiger counter. Uranium was also used in dentures; real enamal fluorecesses when exposed to UV in sunshine and looks brighter than most dentures; with some uranium you can create a half-assed simulation of that.
I love the idea. It's how unique a map is that ultimately discerns how fantastic and enjoyable it is. I love the escalators and the moving sun. I would like to see the sky a dark blue and the sun turn into the moon, then you could create some really nice museum style floor lights to illuminate the now rampant 'exhibits' but it's your map and it's looking fine the way it is going now.
and EVA stands for Extra Vehicular Activity could be a parking garage in a goldeneye level or a mall or the shuttle launch facility where you met jaws in Goldeneye 64

Uh hi :x
Ok well bad news...my hard drive died and well, I lost everything. However, I feel like I wasn't even at a good start. The only thing that I'm really disappointed about is that I lost the logo for EVA.
Hopefully I can find it somewhere...
Anyway, I've started anew. I have a little modeling experience so I can probably make neon signs and stuff for my map.
Edit:
OH THANK GOD
I was smart enough to copy everything to my flashdrive!

Small update
Been working on a 3D version of the logo as a hologram.
(Links may be considered nsfw simply because they show a nude-like breast area) <a href="http://filesmelt.com/dl/modelprogress.jpg" target="_blank">Screenshot 1</a> <a href="http://filesmelt.com/dl/modelprogress3.jpg" target="_blank">Screenshot 2</a> <a href="http://filesmelt.com/dl/modelprogress2.jpg" target="_blank">Screenshot 3</a>
Coming along great so far! The only thing that kind of bugs me is the breast area, but it might look better once I make the arms to cover herself up. I can already tell the hair is probably going to be the hardest part...well that or the head.
I also plan on making a second model of EVA as a help guide, sort of like Cortana in Halo.

The logo was designed by me. It may have an anime look to it, but the overall theme of the map has Japanese influence in it.
If you read up on Japanese culture, you'll see that anime is pretty common. However, you don't have to worry about my map being clogged up with anything anime, other than the logo and maybe a few signs.
Think Dead Space + NS2 with a sprinkle of Anime
And if you just plain don't like anything Japanese/Anime then you don't have to view this thread or play the map. Not directing that at you specifically, but I know the internet and how most people tend to jump on the bandwagon of hate when Anime is mentioned.
don't get me wrong I enjoy anime, I just don't think it's quite fitting to the universe. but, if you want to spend your time making logos instead of maps, go right ahead :P.

Second, it's grey because I'm using the dev textures. I haven't gotten around to doing real textures yet.
Third, I haven't even begun to add lighting to the map. The only lights you see are lights that are coming from the outside (sunlight).
And the Marine Start will probably get a make over, again. The entire thing is taking a huge turn right now.
Just imagine that you're looking at everything as if the area has no power.
If sufficiently small to stay suspended it is sufficiently small to self-ignite, forming UO2, which is a brownish sort of colour.
Gross.
Edit: Also, I've started working on an actual lay out I guess.
I suppose the map will be pretty small, but it will vary between an upper floor and a lower floor.
<img src="http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7910/evalayout.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
The black areas are the lower floor, which haven't been drawn out yet.
Red areas are tech points, purple areas are resource nodes. Still getting some rough ideas going.
I do have a plan for two of the rooms though.
Gross.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Perfect Dark Carrington Institute
other than that 2nd would be a golden eye theme.

Everyday Villains Association
Meh just wanted to join the EVA fun.
Earth Vending Association.
Its a shopping centre in space yeah....
Earth cos the company originated on earth.
Vending = To Sell.
Association because its a chain of shopping centres...
makes perfect sence...
Its one shopping centre asteroid in a chain of outer space shopping centre asteroids that originated from earth... Perfect sense...
IDK!

No I was thinking more like Lucky Star :V
The ns2 assets are nice, but sometimes you just need something of your own :3
Edit: Again, the map isn't about anime.
