Nice work with filesizes

So I noticed that the map I'm working on is only 273 kilobytes. Even the professional deathmatch map is only 2 megs. With file sizes this small, I can see custom servers being very enjoyable. I'd always avoid TF2 customs because the BSP was around 30 or more megs and many servers don't spare enough bandwidth to get the files in a timely fashion. What exactly did they do to make these maps so efficient?

I assume it is because the levels are not compiled. In BSPs, everything is precompiled, meaning there is a ton of information held within those files, including visibility and lighting. The NS2 maps have only the raw information the mapper puts into them, and that info is not all that large.

Can you imagine if they converted that ASCII data to Binary it would make it even smaller!
