Related to ease of use
This is a suggestion related to truncating as well as promoting more people to involved in subforums with minimal navigation.
I'll use the Natural Selection General Discussion Forum as an example.
It might be best to create one general Natural Selection 2 Forum, and have that essentially be "General Discussion" by default. Upon clicking this you're presented with 4 subforums visible at the very top of the general discussion. Mapping, Modding, I&S, and E-Team.
This eliminates the need to click through about 4-5 locations to properly switch between forums, and because it's presented to you first and foremost before general forum topics are listed, new people and people browsing the forums will naturally get an idea of the subforums immediately. This also allows people to browse general discussion and immediately see if there's any new posts in any of the other forums when refreshing it by looking at the latest post indictator on all 4 of the subforums listed at the top of the current forum.
This is just a suggestion, but I think it'd be much easier to navigate and serve to make a more cohesive forum browsing experience.
This also could be done with many of the original NS forums for truncation as well.

This is another option, to have all 5 forums independent, but it appears the idea is to create some sort of containment of forums, hence why i suggested a more uniformed Main Forum and 4 subforums, instead of having a the current:
Creation > Mapping
> Modding
Discussion > General
> I and S
> E-Team
And turning it into:
Natural Selection 2 > Mapping
> Modding
> I and S
> E-Team
NS2
> General Discussion
> Ideas and Suggestions
> Mapping
> Modding
> E-team
as compared to
NS2
> Discussion
> General Discussion
> Ideas and Suggestions
> E-team
> Creation
> Mapping
> Modding
However, this would be the preferable format for when more sub forums are added...
NS2
> Discussion
 > General Discussion
> Ideas and Suggestions
> E-team
> Server Discussions
> Tournaments / Events
> Guild Discussions

> Creation
> Mapping
> Modding
> Modeling
edit:
Darn thing doesn't preserve indentation!
NS2
> General Discussion
> Ideas and Suggestions
> Mapping
> Modding
> E-team

I also vote for this. It's completely useless to have another subforum for the creation stuff. Just put all five forums under NS2 to keep it simple :)

Another vote for that sort of layout, no need to nest the forums when there are so few categories.
Thanks so much!
Now I wait patiently to be the first post in the new sub forum.
thank you!
approve +1
BTW, I HATE sub-forums with a passion. Stupid extra nesting + low click economy.....
